I have quad core at 3.0 ghz and my processor only scores 7.2 My velociraptor only scores 6.0 and is my lowest rating. I'll be getting another for raid 0 when I feel like blowing a couple hundred

The bottom line is that, in order to achieve a perfect 7.9 Windows 7 score, users will have to buy a computer powered by at least an 8 core processor. However, the processor is simply not enough. Customers will also have to feed their machine with RAM, somewhere in the vicinity of 8 GB. At the same time, Solid State Drives (SSDs) with very high random I/O rates and as low as possible latency issues will also contribute to getting close to 7.9. When it comes to graphics, users will need a card with at least DirectX 10 support and a WDDM 1.1 driver.

i wonder if the i7 counts....
ssd (have to specify either SLC or either one of intels or OCZ's top of the line MLC...)
as for the gaming i cant see a card that can reach 7.9 without being at least DX 11 and WDDM 1.1

See, except for the SSD (and that is not entirely ruled out yet) I will have a Core i7 machine with 8 (more than likely 12) GB onboard and already have dual GTX 260s - but the 260s show a very very low score for desktop applications. They are definitely Dx 10 cards and WDDM 1.1 compatible - but even with the WDDM 1.1 drivers I still only got a 6.4.

Ridiculous it seems.

Hmmm, I get 6.5 for gaming, and 7.9 for desktop graphics with a radeon hd 4850.

This was taken before switching from dual 320g in raid 0 to 1 velociraptor (300g), but the rating stayed the same (6.0).

a nice read, but I am going to be able to push exactly none of that type of machine out my door to client. solid state drive? given the failure rates, just about my quickest way to unemployment.

Only gamers rigs will get a high score....

my i7 only got 7.4!
6gb memory got 7.5

graphics for windows aero got 4.9 but my card is just fine for what I do

gaming graphics for 3d (never gonna use that one) got 4.7 so if you don't have a megawad gamers vid card forget getting a high score overall

my HD got an anemic 5.9 in win7 yet nearly a highest score in vista. doh!

don't think I will spend a wad for a higher score tho.

i am guessin they are preparing for the future
and it around the ballpark to get lower than a 7.5 Since Windows 7 lists physical cores (you have 4 since hyperthreaing makes it look like 8 cores)
the only motherboard that Can Stand a chance to get that score (consumer-wise) would be a i7 skulltrail

Something isn't right.

It's getting 6.0 for gaming score on Windows 7
The reason something isn't right is because my 4670, which is much more pirmitive scores also 6.0 on Windows 7.

I don't understand, I got the latest drivers from ATI...

Also strange... My 9800gt gets a 6.0 also for gaming, this must mean a cap? Also, shouldn't my memory score higher or do I need more capacity with 64-bit edition? :sarc:

These scores are now taking into account hardware of the future. I think it is a load of nonsense anyway because some of the scores you see just don't make sense. I had a 9500gs which give me a score of 5.3 and when I bought and installed a new 9600gt it went up to a massive 5.8. It should have been far better than 9500 so I try not to take much notice any more. The scores were actually higher in build 7000 so they must have cranked them down to take into account tomorrows hardware.

Its all just a big wa*k imo. Hardware manufacturers must be delighted that sheeple are spending big dollars on hardware just for the bragging rights of having a higher WEI score .

Actually, I've discovered that the scoring changes from build to build. Right now, I have a graphics score (both) at 6.5 (a single GeForce GTX 280), processor scores are 7.6 (i7 920) and 5.9 for harddisk performance (just one of the 6 SATA HDs in there. Would've been higher if any other was tested). Obviously someone getting 7.9 for graphics with a radeon 4850 is a little weird from this perspective... My currently installed build is 7077.

Personally, I don't think the rating system works worth ****!
What shows if you have good system performance is Benchmarks using Vantage & Sisoftware Sandra.
These are my current scores using build 7077.
My system specs are listed below.
