i have just installed windows 7 on an older system with a radeon 9250 128mb agp video card.

i tried installing the latest catalyst driver package just to see if they would work but they didn't detect the card, and i couldn't manually update the drivers via device manager since the card would not see any compatible drivers.

is there any supported drivers avaialble for this card for windows 7?

thanks.

Download the Vista driver for it from ATI's site (or from Zidane's link above.) Extract it to C:\ATI

Then install using the device manager. Right click standard vga. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Now go inside C:\ATI and find the .inf (inside driver display folder or something.)

Double click on it and hit ok.

thanks for the responses.

i used the zip file Zidane24 provided but device manager didn't recognize the drivers when i tried updating them.

i can't find a vista driver for this card on the amd website- even when i try searching for vista specific drivers for the card the search turns up nothing.

any other suggestions?

Oh yeah...Seems they didn't make a Vista driver even for that card. You're probably out of luck then, unless you can install the XP driver and it works. I doubt it but worth a try.

You'll have to install through the device manager if it will work at all, by pointing to the specific .inf.

You will not have Aero even if it does work.

Or another approach is to try to place an install string for your card into the download from ATI/AMD's site for the 9500 Vista.

Right click on your standard vga in device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste the results here, if you want me to make you an .inf for that ATI download. (x86 or x64?)

I have this same problem. I just aquired a new monitor. I have two on my NVida 8600 Card. One VGA, 1 SLI. I have now added a old card and a new monitor. I can't get this new card to work. I just plan on keeping Outlook or something on while using this monitor so it will not be of much graphical intensity. I have tried to do so many different divers and such. Here is a screenshot of my device manager. Let me know if this is possible.

It's not possible because the Radeon 9250 can only use XP driver, if at all.

Pre WDDM 1.1 drivers can not work on the system with other video drivers. So even if XP will work for the card, it won't with the NVIDIA present.

The 9250 will never have Aero no matter what.

(And you mean one VGA, one DVI on the NVIDIA card. :D)

I think the driver of Radeon 9250 for XP is running under 32 Bit. I've also 64 Bit and the driver isn't work. I want to use a second monitor with vga, if anybody have a useful driver, please post it here :-)

I had a Saphire Radeon 9200 running on Windows 7 basic VGA driver and tried every trick I knew to try and get a higher driver to install and it is just NOT possible. Anyone who says so is not being truthful and is winding people up. There was never a Vista driver for this card and it is much too weak for Vista and 7. Works great in XP 32 bit and that is all.

I was able to make the Radeon 9550/X1050 run on Windows 7 without aero and it works great but i'm not sure if there's any support for Radeon 9250.

I had the Radeon 9250 and the Aero feature worked in Windows 8.

As far as I remember Windows 7 did not work no matter what. A year later (today) this remains the same.

Pure Genius and worked a treat

What a star, 1st class

I have successfully installed the Radeon 9250 drivers on Windows 7 32bit. This is how I did it:

BACKGROUND:

I have an old Dell Dimension 3000 with a crappy on-board Intel graphics card. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I also installed a Saphire Radeon 9250 card. By default, Windows 7 identified the Radeon 9250 card as a generic/unknown graphics controller.

INSTALLATION:

[1] Use Windows Update to confirm you have the most recent video drivers distributed by Microsoft: C:\Windows\System32\wuapp.exe
[2] Download the official Radeon 9250 drivers for Windows XP 32bit, from the AMD site: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/archive/radeon-prer300-xp
[3] Install the Radeon Catalyst driver package. It will fail. Take note of where the driver installation files were decompressed to.
[4] Open the Device Manager C:\Windows\System32\devmgmt.msc
[5] Select 'Display Adapters' and locate the unknown graphics controller. Right click on the graphics controller, and select 'Update Driver Software'.
[6] Choose 'Browse My Computer for Driver Software' then navigate to where the Radeon Catalyst drivers were decompressed; typically: C:\ATI\Support
[7] Windows will now discover and install the 9250 Radeon drivers from within the Radeon Catalyst package

RESULTS:

Windows 7 will now recognize the Radeon 9250 drivers, as can be seen in the attached screen capture. Areo effects do not seem to function (in contrast to having a non-functioning video card, this seems of minor consequence).

It should be noted that this has only been successful under the 32bit OS.

Just installed Radeon 9250 AGP in Windows 7 x86

Congratulations to member seanriddolls, for coming up with the Radeon 9250 work around. It was a problem I've been dealing with all day. I've been trying to update an old XP computer, with a Radeon 9250 AGP video card, to Windows 7 32-bit. I followed his instructions and it worked like a charm. Thanks mate!
