Not a question, but reporting a solved problem. Adrenalin fails to install for AMD Radeon RX6800.

TL;DR: Twofold problems: I needed to clean out previous AMD drivers/software, and install with Driver Signature Enforcement disabled.

OS: Win7 Home Premium 64bit
MB: GA-990FXA-UD3
CPU: AMD FX-8350
GC: AMD Radeon RX6800 GAMING OC 16GD

I put my new AMD Radeon RX6800 into my case, replacing my previous AMD Radeon RX480 and attempted to install the driver suggested by Gigabyte on their website. The driver however failed to install, giving me an "Error 182", which evidently means "The hardware doesn't match the driver you downloaded" which doesn't make a lot of sense.

After running DDU and trying to reinstall the Adrenalin package, it finally attempted to actually install the driver, but still didn't work after the installation process executed, giving me some "Windows requires a digitally signed driver" errors specifically for the AMD High Definition Audio Device and AMD Crash Defender. I tried to disable the signed driver requirement using bcdedit in the terminal but none of that worked.

In any event after about 4 solid hours of struggling (with great assistance from my brother, thank you man) after about 15 or so different attempts to install the driver I finally found what worked:

  1. Download the Adrenaline package found here (Do not install yet)
  2. Download and Install Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) program found here
  3. Disable network devices (to prevent WinUpdate from fiddling with things automatically)
  4. Boot into safemode (either through msconfig or via BIOS boot option)
  5. Run DDU with default settings and choose default restart option
  6. After restart, while booting, enter Advanced Boot Options (lots of people online say you get into it by tapping F8 but for me it was tapping F9 and then pressing F8 once when visually given the option to)
  7. In the Advanced Boot Options menu, select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
  8. Once Windows starts, install the Adrenaline package normally. If the system reboots during installation, make sure you enter Advanced Boot Options and repeat the previous step again.
  9. Restart computer after driver install.

After this, for me Aero finally started working, cuing me into the fact that the driver had properly installed, and I booted up a game which now actually ran, rather than complaining about not having the minimum version of DirectX installed.

If anyone else has the same problem, I hope this helps you so you don't have to waste as much time as we did.
