I have my eyes on an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Now I am wondering what kind of a boost to performance would I receive in gaming terms? My specs are below..

I built a personal test rig for myself recently. The Q8400 is what i used.

You will not see huge performance gains from your current CPU, you would have to go to an i7 to see real performance gains from where you are.

That said the Q8400 is a GREAT CPU. I have used the Q8200 and the 8400 is much better. It's *almost* as good as it's big bother the 9400. If you're looking for an upgrade without a new board and RAM, the Q8400 is what I would get too.

I too don't think that the improvement would be drastic.

I've just gone from an E8200 to a Q9550 and there was quite a bit of a performance increase, especially in GTA 4.

If you mean C2Q Q6600, it one of the best 65 nm chips. It's getting to be old technology now however. I would go 45 nm.

Good article Skunk. There's a lot of good stuff there.

Before we know it, 32nm will be upon us so that's something to consider.

As they say, if you wait until the next big thing to come out, you will never upgrade.

Just buy all the hardware you can afford and it until next time you can afford to upgrade.
