jimbo45, I agree with you. We've just got into the groove with Windows 7, and now they are talking Windows 8 and some even 9. I mean, the first service pack for 7 hasn't been released yet. Windows 7 is running fine. Why jump so far ahead? And as far as XP goes, 6 years passed before Vista was released. XP was Microsoft's backbone for many years, and is far from dead now. Were it not for XP, Microsoft most likely would not be here today, because during the Vista years, all that I heard was XP,XP,XP. They rushed Vista out before it was ready. Windows 7 is the greatest OS that Microsoft has produced. Let's enjoy it the way we enjoyed the XP years and not get too far ahead of ourselves.

The development life cycle, for a new Windows, is approximately Three to Four years. The rate of technology advancement leads to a requirement for a new operating system approximately every 3 years. therefore the start of the development cycle must be close to the end of the previous operating system's developement.

XP was an exception to this rule due to the complete redesign of what became vista due to technological changes happening at the time Vista was due to be released. XP SP2 took the place IMO of the missing Operation system release.

With the cutting edge nature of a high proportion of the members here, it is only to be expected that even early discussions of the next Microsoft OS will appear in threads here.

I myself have been using Windows 7 as my primary Operating system for in excess of a year and I know of a lot of other members who have been very involved in the development

Quite a few of us have been using W 7 for over a year and I for one am ready for Windows 8, the sooner the better.

I think you have to take some of this Windows 8 talk with a wee grain of salt. Those of us who love to play with betas and such, would probably like a new OS every 6 months.

In my case, I don't spend a cent on vegetables so I can buy software. It is a tough sacrifice, but an addict has to do what an addict has to do.

The end of the world is a thought. Nobody knows when will be the end of world.

We don't know if we will be alive tomorrow or even tonight.

If we are alive, we'll have the chance to see Windows 8.
