The issue is as follows:

If the network connection is cut while Windows Live Messenger (With Messenger Plus! and A-Patch installed) is running, it will lock-up. Any open chat conversations will be frozen, and all data (chat log history in current open windows, etc) is lost. There is no way to recover.

I'm running Windows Live Messenger 8089 and Plus! 14.0.0726, and the machine details is below.

My Plus! scripts are as follows:
Display Picture Changer 1.3
Fetch 2.0.1
Idle Liar 1.1
IPGet

If anyone is able to re-create the issue or knows a fix, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

what does it say in event manager about it? type event viewer in search>windows logs>applications. look for errors with app hang, app crash, and anything else that relates to the problem. when you find them note the event ID and source codes and let us know what they are.

Let us know if you need help with that

Doesn't seem to be logged, unfortunately. There's no hangs or crashes for msnmsgr.exe for months.

Would it be fair comment to suggest your plugin software may be to blame, the one which patches Messenger to strip out adverts and alter nudge delays etc has been known to cause strange behaviour.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I even reformatted my laptop TWICE (clean) and installed ONLY firefox and windows live messenger. Samething, after a few days of usage it starts to freeze up, a few seconds each time. As it doesn't crash, nothing is recorded. This problem is discussed here, but still no solution (disregard the title, because people are still getting the problem in RTM): Windows Live Messenger 2009 is slow with Windows 7 RC

Have a shot at uninstalling Plus! and A-patch, and see how it goes.

It doesn't run slow for me and it doesn't crash or freeze up unless what I mentioned happens. I'll give uninstalling Messenger Plus! and A-Patch a try but I don't think it'll make a difference.

Okay, after numerous experiments, I've come to isolate the problem to compatibility issues.

Scenario 1:
Messenger WITHOUT Messenger Plus and WITH vista compatibility fix
Result: Freezes

Scenario 2:
Messenger WITH Messenger Plus and WITH vista compatibility fix
Result: Freezes

Scenario 3:
Messenger WITH Messenger Plus and WITHOUT vista compatibility fix
Result: WORKS!

How come no one else is experiencing this...

Oh, so that's why that's happening? But I can't get it to show an icon in the tray without compatibility for Vista. That's a shame, but I suppose I'll experiment.
