Windows 7 Available in September/October 2009

When it comes down to the deadline for the general availability of Windows 7, Microsoft has been undeterred from its initial claims that the next iteration of the Windows client would ship within three years of Windows Vista's GA. However, this is not exactly the case, revealed a computer-industry executive from Asia. In fact,

Microsoft seems keen to beat its three years from Vista GA estimate for the delivery of Windows 7. A report via Bloomberg indicates that the Redmond company is actually planning to wrap up Windows 7 well ahead of the 2009 holiday season, namely in the September – October 2009 time frame.

Will that mean that 9-10/2010 will see SP1 for 7? SP1 for Vista came out in a year's time just it's predecessor XP saw it's own SP1 in 2002 overcoming the 137gb barrier as one of the fixes then.

If 7 is out that early I'll likely be picking up the retail package for seeing both 32bit as well as 64bit versions of the particular edition decided on. That will accomidate a few things.

Usually Softpedia is one of the few more reliable sources while you still have to wait until Microsoft makes any actual annoucements before getting yourself all hot and bothered so to speak. It's their product to begin with.

So far there's been about 2 or 3 newer builds seen given to testers since the 7000 was made public. Once the beta stage passes then you still have to go through the Release Candidates likely to take another 3-4 months there. With Vista RC1 was seen in 9/2006 with the actual release seen 4 months later on 1/31/07 taking that into consideration.

I'll try not to! All they are doing there however is giving out some type of approximate time frame according to what they have been hearing anyways.

The main difference with 7 however is having more of a base to work off of while Vista/Longhorn saw countless delays supposedly. With Vista final they can progress further from there with 7 since Vista caught many offguard hardware wise and have now raised the minimum requirements to compensate even while 7 has seen some refinements in that direction.

In fact, from Chen's report it is unclear whether or not he expects Windows 7 to RTM and to be served to OEMs in September/October 2009, or if either of the two months will mark the general availability of the platform. Because if indeed late September or early October is to witness the RTM of Windows 7, the operating system will take quite some time, up to a couple of months before it will hit the shelves.

Read the 'fine' lines in this report .. it doesn't say that Win7 will be rolled out then.
I'm one who is waiting for the final release on a purchased DVD. My money is saved up for it!

I bought Vista the first day it was out. Of course I was looking for something to run on a new build being planned at the time. For 7 I'll likely end up with both 32bit and 64bit versions of the edition I pick out once the comparison page is seen.

As far as being ready and then hitting the shelves that always takes time to get everything out to distributers prior to the actual release day. Copies of Vista Ultimate were pretty much wiped in a few hours on 1/31/07 for that release locally. Can you imagine the lineup for 7 when the release date is finally annouced.

Are you kidding. I'll be buying birthday gifts and late or pre holiday gifts to see several upgraded. Nothing like a bulk order to see everyone with the new version then out.

I'm glad to see that you share the same excitement they many of us have here.

I am a proud owner of Vista Ultimate, but loved SP1

after Windows dumped "the FAT years" "95 through 2000, I was happy, I can now upgrade from Windows 2000 (an NT OS, hum strange:sarc to a home user version of NT, which was called XP, but greatly disappointed until SP1, but ultimately SP2, what a freaking mess. Then Vista was a vast overhaul of the user interface, which made me buy vista Ult in June of 2007.


Note: XP is awesome, don't forget it's history. 3.51 & 4.0 ithink

its my wonder that after all these years people forgot about how messy it was with XP came out ( upgrades especially because of two different architecture paths being 9x and NT specifically i remember that being the last time i upgrade a OS again win9x upgrade to xp that i ultimately scrapped the system and cleaned installed it) and how before people complained about the requirements and the number of bugs (at launch that was huge compared to vista) ...
i still remember....

I was dual booting 98 with XP for some time before Vista was first announced. But that was far from the first dual booting seen here going back into those dos/3.1...eventually 9x 95/98 days.

I'll miss the Classic Winodws theme but have to look at the rest of 7 having seen it in beta form here. And yet I'm booted in Vista for seeing IE 8 RC1 go on there without even having to reopen a page to resave any favorites since the transition went smooth.

Well, there is the RC that's supposedly coming out in April. You're not going to install that?
