PC occasionally freezes and I have no idea why

I upgraded from VISTA to Windows 7 about a month ago. Mostly everything has been fine, but once in awhile, my computer just freezes. It's happened 3 times since I upgraded. Everything locks so all I can do is push the power button to turn the computer off. It happened again this morning when I was running a Malwarebytes scan. The other 2 times it happened, the only app running was Carbonite which basically runs throughout the day.

I don't think the problem is Malwarebytes or Carbonite. I have no idea how to solve this. Once I restart, I check the Event Logs and they show nothing unusual. I'd be very grateful if someone here has any ideas.

I use Norton Internet Security 2010 for real-time protection, but run Malwarebytes scans manually. I always do an update check before running a scan.

Hi and welcome

What exactly are you looking for in event viewer? In which tabs are you looking?

ken J+, to tell the truth, I'm not sure what Event Viewer would tell me in this case. I just look to see if there's a msg under Administrative Events that I don't normally see there.

See if turning off NAV's LiveProtect temporarily, then running MBam still freezes your system.

Thanks Jacee! I added the Malwarebytes modules to my Norton exclusion lists. I ran another scan and everything was fine. If the freeze happens again, I'll try your suggestion.
