Horrible sound with latest Realtek driver

Hey there.

I've looked almost everywhere and I couldn't find my exact problem. Well, technically I did but there wasn't a solution anywhere, so I decided to go ahead and ask myself.

Now, I installed Windows 7 (32 bit) on my computer the other day, and I've been driver hunting since then. Looking for video card drivers, printer drivers, it's a real nightmare. Though I can say I've pretty much managed with everything, except with this.

I downloaded the latest Realtek HD audio driver for Windows 7 twice, from different sources. I also downloaded a bunch of codecs (made for Windows 7 as well) but what really bothers me is that the sound quality is horrifying.

I used to have XP on my system until last week with the appropriate Realtek audio driver and the sound was awesome. The equalizers available really did the trick.

Now, however, the sound is so freaking bad, even Winamp's equalizer can't make my music sound as good as it did. The treble is raspy, there's hardly any bass. I've tried all the available settings in the Realtek Control Center (or whatever it's called) to no avail. All the additional equalizing and adjusting of the environment make it sound even worse. =/

If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate it so much.

What is the exact make and model number

Is it High definituion or AC97?

I honestly dont understand why you had to hunt all over the Internet for the drivers... Your Foxconn MB has built-in everything, and their website should have been your #1 source: Foxconn Support - Download

Even though they (Foxconn) are not known for offering great support... the Vista drivers they have posted there should work!

I did look at Foxconn's website, actually, but for some reason it wouldn't allow me to download any drivers. It just displays a "loading" sign and does nothing. Perhaps I should try from a different computer.

Well, that sure didn't do the trick. XD

For some reason, the setup of the driver I downloaded from Foxconn's site would only install the XP driver...

BUT, I realized that Win 7 actually comes with a default sound driver, which is Realtek HD. The bad quality was due to the lacing of that driver and the one I additionally installed, I suppose.

One problem remains, though. This default driver doesn't have an equalizer option...

Have you checked Realteks website? Realtek
Not the easiest site in the world to navigate, but you should find what you are looking for if you know the exact model # of your integrated sound card.

I had this problem within the first week of installing 7. Check for compatibility issues. Are you having more than one sound source operating at the same time? Try disabling sound equalisers in the sound option. I.E. click on sound in taskbar, then the speakers, then on the tabs click 'enhancements'. Perhaps disable some of the options there. Or try lowering some programme volumes on volume mixer, again, click on speaker, then 'mixer'.

What kind of sound system have you got?

I had the same problem playijng stereo sound over my 5.1 surround system, all I had to do there was use the build in bypass on the amplifier to get everything working as it should.

On normal setting stereo just comes out via my FRand FL speaker, but using the other setting on my (cheapo technika) amp it fills in the rest of my speakers and now I've got wonderfull sound with movies music games etc.
