Lol, funny how games dictate your OS. Vistas my main OS again due to games. Different reason, same boat

i like it as well for gaming, how come you guys dont like it? i mainly play cod4mw, cod5waw, crysis, crysis warhead, farcry 2 and bioshock and they are all maxed out in graphic settings even with AA they all run great considering im running 9800gx2's

My Auzentech sound card drivers have a nasty habit of either BSODing or app crashing with an un-killable sound loop. It just got tiresome after a few months. I just wanted to game without crashing all the time

are you sure its your s/c drivers causing it? out of curiosity did you try compat mode when installing it, latest drivers for vista ect? you more than likely did i just like this o/s soo much i feel like a saint trying to advertise how good his church is. lmao

does any one know when the final release will be out? i just cant wait to throw it on my laptop but i dont wanna put beta on there as my g/f and i use it for net surfing and all sorts, this desktop setup is my pride and joy and i am the only one that is allowed to touch it. lol

are there any links or guides to performance tweaking 7 (not like it needs it) like there are for vista, eg: disabling certain processors like readyboost and things like that that are enabled at startup to decrease mem usage/ increase performance?

Yes. Yes I am. I have trouble-shooted this out the ying yang

Every single game has caused a BSOD or sound loop. Sometimes both. Some games just crash much quicker than others. The only game I could play for hours was Fallout 3 and even that sporadically crashed. Same games under Vista, no problems.


I've had sound trouble in builds 6801, 6956 and 7000. I know which driver it is, but can do nothing about it. It's a known problem to Auzentech and unfortunately the ETA for 7 beta drivers will be around June according to Auzentech support. I'm on the list to beta test the drivers, but I don't expect them any before then

If you don't mind, can you tell me where you found 182.06 drivers for Windows 7? I need the 64-bit.

COD 4:MW, COD:WaW, Crysis and Crysis Warhead are all working fine for me at the moment, but I'll take every frame per second I can get.

If you dont already know Windows 7 uses pretty much all Vista compatible drivers.

i take it its for your 8800GT in your specs?

NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search

just select 8 series, 8800GT, Windows Vista 64-bit
click Search

and 182.06 should be the first driver at the top, tick the "I have read and agree to the terms and conditions" then click Download Now.

if you have any probs while installing you may need to enable compatibility mode and tick the box that says run as administrator on the install file. Thats IF you have any probs.

soz if you already knew all the details on how to do it.

good news, nvidia have 182.08 drivers, but here is a link to 185.20 BETA drivers, im gonna give em a shot.

Sorry I didn't see this before - bloke, those 185.2 drivers are pretty much the only stable drivers I have found in W7 - be sure to extract them to a directory, and then extract the newest drivers as well, and then copy over the PhysX installer from the newest official release into the Beta 185.2 release - then you get the latest PhysX driver along with the 185.20 drivers.

Oh, and for what it's worth, the nForce 20.08 drivers are actually supposed to be for the nForce mobile motherboards, but the basic drivers that they install that apply to desktop boards are the same versions as those included in the 15.23 - the exception being that the 20.08 also includes the drivers for the GPU as well, which I always disable.

Which leads me to think - you didn't accidentally allow those GPU drivers to be installed, did you? If so, use Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to clean your machine and then install *only* the 20.08 drivers that are not GPU related and the 182.08 or 185.2 drivers for your GPUs.

You can check my specs to see my hardware - your system is better in terms of components but otherwise pretty close to mine, so I think the nVidia chipsets and W7 don't play nicely - and this is *especially* true with the default W7 drivers - none of my hardware components are using the native drivers except HDs and Optical Drives and ACPI.

yeh i checked the files afterwards and they are just about the same as the 15.23, i was hoping they finally made a new driver as nvidia dont seem to do anything with chipsets for some reason

Like you, i never install a default (or supplied) driver, i always go directly to the web for the latest. the only thing i let update install is the hdtv tuner drivers for compatibility reasons.

we are very similar in specs, but one of your 260's would slap one of my gx2 around. did you have to remove your sli bridge for games to run?

off topic, your mx revolution, is your battery holding charge properly? i done a little trick to regain the charge in mine and its gone from a couple days use to just over a full week. also if you put a tiny dab of grease on the spin wheels legs it spins almost like new again. i stripped mine down and cleaned it out.
