When I click on "Devices and Printers" there's a little yellow triangle next to the icon for my computer. When I right click and click on Troubleshoot I get a message that says: "The driver for the network controller not installed. Install the latest driver." After I "apply the fix" (looking online for a driver) I briefly see a message that indicates the system is intalling drivers for devices, but then it says that the driver installation failed. I downloaded the latest drivers for NVIDIA nForce 630i from the NVIDIA site, and installed it, but I still get the "Network controller doesn't have a driver" message. I've tried to update the driver, but it never finds it online. Am I missing something here, like a driver? I downloaded the Pitstop software and scanned my system, and it says I have all the latest drivers.

It's a Gateway computer, and I did a clean install of Win 7 Pro, because it came with Vista HP. I'm a bit perphlexed. I have had some network problems in the sense that other computers on the network can't see my Windows 7 shared drives, but I can see theirs.

[Update: I went to the Gateway site, entered my serial number, and downloaded the chipset driver pack, and the network driver itself. When I tried to install the network driver after unzipping and extracting everything, by using "update" in preferences, I got a message that the driver wasn't found. After that I just ran the setup for the chipset which did an installation wizard. Still no network driver installed. What's wrong? (I did download the 64-bit versions of everything.)]

You will get this message if your system doesn't actually make an internet connection.

In Device Manager, do you still have a triangle?

Yep, still have it. Can't think of anything I haven't done, but that doesn't mean much.

I still have this problem. Anyone have any suggestions? If I go into device manager it says that the network controller, under "other devices" has no driver. If I "scan for hardware changes" it attempts to install a driver, but fails. Happens over and over again. The only thing I can think of to do is to try uninstalling the device, reboot, and see if that helps.

Well that didn't work. After rebooting I got the message "driver not successfully installed." What's wrong??

How is this machine connecting to the internet if the network controller is not functioning?

OK, thanks. I suspect this is a wireless networking card that's missing a driver. Since I'm not using wireless networking I've deactivated it for now. If I remember correctly it's a Belkin.

Well if your wireless card is missing a driver, you need to get it, it doesn't matter if you are not using wireless, get all your devices working.

That PCI tells us that it's a device made by Atheros, my adapter is same but my driver is supplied by Microsoft.

If your issue is indeed the wireless adapater, try going to the vendor website and see if there is a wireless network driver to suit your machine.

Thanks. Looks like there were two versions of the driver on the Belkin site and in my original setup I chose the wrong one. I then forgot about it because it wasn't something I use, until I noticed the little yellow triangle. I just uninstalled that version and installed the other one, and it seems to be working OK.

Thanks again, for helping me track this down.
