protools doesn't work on windows 7

Pro Tools doesn't work on windows 7 . PERIOD

DAE err0r this, DAE eRR0r that.
Pro Tools Compatibility with Upcoming Microsoft Windows 7

IE8 will end it for you on ALL VERSIONS OF WINDOWS!

If you have an os with IE8, slipstreamed etc. you might get away with the driver only install and use an alternative to protools, like MAGIX for example. But this really is bad for folks with expensive hardware.

Shame on Microsoft, for not providing a tool to YANK IE 8 Out and install IE 6 or 7

Basically Microsoft are saying you need to spend for new hardware. But even with the latest awesome digidesign product ~Eleven Rack, things simply won't work. This is unbelievable how arrogant politics have gotten. They can give a dog about if you spent 6 months installing and tweaking and debugging for a perfect workstation. And it all is 100% Microsoft's fault, so don't blame AVID!

My advice for Pro Tools right now is start with XP Pro SP2, and do your basic updates, building, debugging, with CUSTOM choices always. And when it says IE8 say forget that.

Also on XP use PSI to update things, just not Internet Explorer 8!!!

I would fit such a workstation with a Kaspersky KIS (The one with the internet security) Buy a real license and you'll not regret it.

Keep the whole mess hidden behind IPCop if you have to use the web to update your music to your blogs etc..

Also buy two hard-drives exactly the same, and Clone your drive.

Keep/Manage your Shopping, Browsing, and Banking browsers in a VM OS.

This isn't to say I don't have LOVE for WIN 7 . I absolutely do . I am simply stating FACT as of the CURRENT TIME on your CLOCK. (Or this post better yet)

This also worries me in the future. Cause if we can't BUY and do basic patching and drivers on a basic XP (protected by a serious hardware firewall) a lot of hardware becomes lay to waste.

Furthermore, it will promote piracy by angering the public! e.g. Won't cooperate? Fine.

I ain't advocating nothing, except making the right choices and paying for what you need. But clarify needs, and make it available or your only creating a backlash of anger and resentment. Nothing like sitting in a room needing a driver, and not being smart enough to code the driver up for yourself. If anything there ought to be a grace period where everyone can copy all the files which were ever created for XP. To not put such a backup policy in place is literally dangerous, if not a national security problem. There's copyright, and there's survival of the human species. Come on, be reasonable. I Know you don't want to provide URLS for updates openly, but really it's what you MUST do in order to RID yourself permanently of XP without angering your customer.

The days of the FTP downloaded update are back.

If you don't see it? Fine, buddy, get your flu shot..

Try This

Here's an idea just skip the internet explorer Install... I believe you don't need it, don't quote me on it, but technical you don't need it to complete the install of Pro Tools... but you might run into some problems later on down the road, not sure... Most of my recordings are done on a mac so I don't worry about stuff like that... just outdated hardware, but my home studio is p.c. based dual OS XP/ 7.

I have IE8 on my PC and Pro Tools works great. the IE8 problem was overblown and only effected a few people. If you think IE8 is the problem just do this simple fix...

Instructions to modify internet settings
1.Open Regedit (from Run Window enter “regedit” press OK)
2.In Regedit browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings
3.Right click on the empty space in the right hand side of Registry Editor window and choose New > DWORD Value
4.Name the DWORD AllowCookies and press enter
5.Double click on the AllowCookies DWORD and enter 1 in the Value Data field then press OK
6.Launch Pro Tools

The problem is not in Win7 but it is in IE8,so here is the solution for this problem. You need to fix registry with this file. ;)

Pro Tools Internet Explorer 8 Fix.rar

or this one

Thats not true. IE8 is not the problem. Only a few people have IE8 problems, but thats only with selected plug ins. Iv already posted the way to work around an IE8 problem on the first page. That said, its usually a problem with the way you have your PC setup and the hardware. I have IE8 with no work around and have been running in Windows 7 since it was released. Its more important to always Run As Admin. Most problems with IE8 were with XP. PT 8.0.3 has been fixed to minimize IE8 problems, read the white papers for it.

Pro Tools 8 M-Powered is Approved for Windows 7 64 bit. Just download the updates for PT and the correct drivers.

I made a video to show you how.

YouTube - How to run Pro Tools 7.4 in Windows 7

Be sure to rate the video

Interesting workaround. However Pro Tools 7.4 will NEVER be officially approved for Windows 7. So if you need stability you may want to stick with XP if you dont upgrade to PT 8. PT 8.0.3 runs smooth in Windows 7 for most, but it is still beta, and we expect final approval within a couple of month.
