After doing a lot of reading about MS Security Essentials I have made a decision to test my Win7 HD and have removed all Virus Software and installed MS Security Essentials. IE8 is showing Protected Mode is ON as well as Popup Blocker.
MS Win7 Firewall is up and I have UAC set to the default level.
Defender is gone, MSE shuts that down during install.

So far I have found that I have reduced memory usage about 30 Meg.
My Re-bootup time has dreceased from 63 sec to 54 seconds.

Does anyone else have your system setup this way?
Have I missed anything else?

Will keep you posted on how ell thing perform.

If you turn UAC totally OFF doesn't that also shut off IE8 Protected Mode?
Which I think is good to have ON.

Yeah, Iggy, I haven't seen many people other than Jonathan say they are using NOTHING other than MSE.

Glad to have a canary willing to go into the coal mine.

I am still using Spybot and Spyware Blaster in addition to MSE and would like to get rid of them.

By far, the best security system out there is common sense. You know, I have only gotten viruses a few times, namely when I was downloading music illegally and downloading keygens for software. I was in shady sites both times. Since those days, I have never even downloaded a virus.

Loads of common sense plus control of the hand that clicks the links, when the mind is otherwise tempted.

The common sense statement is true. Becoming a canary in the mine is really funny. I know things will go well but just in case I have a full image backup ready to install.

Update Sat Dec 12, 2009
I have now been running MSE for over a day with no issues or problems.
Windows Firewall is blocking all incoming pinging from China and Korea. lol
I have tested many all my ports, firwall etc and all are blocked.
I have IE Prtected Mode ON and thats it.
I have visited many sites and received email with attachments and MSE has done the job 100%

Like other say common sense plays a big factor in not getting slammed.

So for now I will continue and keep you posted on any hard that comes to my OS and HD. If you have any questions or suggestions please jump right in.
Any bad sites you want me to test?

UPDATE Dec 17,2009

Well today I decided to really put MSE to the test. I installed Limewire and tried to download the nastiest stuff I could find on the web. Microsoft Secuirty Essentials monitored every download and as soon as it found a virus or whatever within it stopped the download and told me what it was and what it planned to do with it. I continued with afew more downloads until it said that they have been quantineened but to tryly get rid of what I have I needed to reboot.
I did a reboot and all went well and all was good again.

I also ran Malwarebytes, Search & Destroy, Hitman Pro and a few others.
After that I used Win7 Image recovery with my recovery disk and in less than 10 minutes I was back to a full clean refreshed HD.

This test gave me a little more confidence in MSE. It works great and I do believ it runs smoother in less memory than all the rest.

Anyone else have any okace you want me to test it at. Just PM me the location.

Iggy:cool:

Iggy:
Same setup as you, have been using MSE and only MSE since it's early release. Quite please will small foot print and low system resource consumption. UAC set to default (recommended) nothing else. But unfortunately I like one of the other posters here, haven't had a virus since Monkey B, back on a very early install of Win95. Just thought I'd let you know that you're not the only canary in the coal mine.

Beast Of A Machine!
I have been using MSE for a month or so, so far no problems.

But--I don't think I have ever been updated twice in any 24 hour period. Nor have I ever gone more than about 40 hours without an update.

Right now, my most recent update was about 34 hours ago.

Why are some people updated several times per day and others not?

My PC is running at least 12 hours per day. Some days it will update within minutes of my startup. Other days, such as today, it will not.

What gives?

I sometime manually check for updates especially for virus definitions.
Someone is always trying to beat any virus protection so the company that stays on top of things better protects the computers. This isn't bad but you may need to update manually and see what happens.
12/17 had one update
12/18 so far today had two updates to Version 1.71 .1038.0

Seeing the same thing here. The only time I've gotten more than one a day is today and that was only because I did a manual just now. Not sure what's going on with multiples
