Crashes and freezing, no BSOD, possible hardware issue?

Hey Ken...

It's because Windows creates the dumps by default and hacked versions have that turned off at default...so you can assume it's also laced with malware.

Or he had it turned off in sys cpanal.

Ken

Right, but he'd have known he has done this already and would have said so most likely.

Look it's not a hacked version. Accuse me all you want but it is a 100% legit copy of the RC which I downloaded earlier this year when it was released to the public. I downloaded it directly from Microsoft as I've now stated twice.

I'm not getting a BSOD when the computer suddenly restarts. What happens is the screen either goes black and then shows the expressgate screen or the screen freezes, the mouse and keyboard no longer receive power and noise comes from the speakers.

I believe you so no worries.

But did you uninstall the antivirus yet, lol?

Do that and also, run a full system scan with Malwarebytes and also a good root-kit scanner.

Antivirus is the cause of many issues and whatever you have installed now, may be it.

I haven't installed the AV yet. And before you say something like "oh well you could have downloaded something" I haven't. I have visited only half a dozen websites since the install...aside from which this error was occurring immediately after the OS install before I even had a chance to use the machine.

edit: i'm running with minimal programs. With the issues i've just held off on installing anything i don't need for daily use.

Haven't been able to locate any *dmp file anywhere on the computer. Crash happened again last night, just about 2 days after the last successful reboot the same as last time. I was in Firefox and opened a new tab for a youtube video and the computer locked up. Same issues. Noise from the speakers, USB mouse and keyboard shut off, screen frozen. Rebooted and tried finding a dump file but could not. No minidump folder or .dmp files in C:/Windows

Help? I'm really starting to worry this is hardware.

Can you check in your system control panel>advanced system settings>start up and recovery? Nake sure write system log is checked

It's all on. 'Write an event to the system log', 'small memory dump' to %systemroot%\minidump. Auto restart is disabled.

Nope, no memory dumps there.
Does the system crash to a Blue Screen - or does it just lock up?

It either just locks up and I have to press the reset button or it just restarts itself. Never shows a blue screen.

OK, freezes and crashes aren't my area of expertise, but let's give it a try.

First, there are errors in the MSINFO32 report that refer to these devices:
ACPI\ATK0110 - Asus ACPI driver utility
USB\VID_091E&PID_0003 - Garmin GPSmap
HID\VID_046D&PID_C049 - Logitech GS Lazer Mouse
HID\VID_06A3&PID_8020 - Saitek Controller or Keyboard

For the Asus driver (I'd think that this was the most likely cause, but cannot be sure), download this driver: ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit from the Utilities section on this page: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt

Please download new drivers for the other devices above, then uninstall them, then install the new drivers (to fix any corruption that may be present).

Finally, try this process to get a dump file on the hung process: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...-nov-generating-memory-dump-hung-process.html

I'd recommend updating to the RTM because this 7100 is going to expire fairly soon anyhow. Not really much sense debugging for a system that will only be going for a little bit.

It expires in June. That's plenty of time to try to figure this out.

It's only a recommendation. Also, this way you can be certain that the original media installer is not corrupted and 7600 should be more stable just because it's updated and newer. 7100 was great though, I'd have to say as well.

It's just a good troubleshooting method to run latest in any case. Not trying to stop anyone from helping you here though. As I said, only a highly recommended suggestion.

I have a hunch that if you install the RTM with or without a format, problems gone. Format is suggested, however.

I wish I had hope for better success by running the RTM version but as I was running 7100 from when it first became available and it only started having this problem recently I still feel there is a hardware issue, specifically with the USB as was seen in the MSInfo file in regards to the keyboard, mouse and Garmin. I uninstalled the ATK driver and downloaded the latest version. I also downloaded the latest mouse and keyboard drivers. I still have to download the Garmin driver update which was just released by Garmin 2 weeks ago and includes the proper W7x64 compatibilty

My system admin lent me an RTM copy for some testing so I will be installing that on another drive tonight to see how it goes. Keeping the fingers crossed.

Alright I've installed the RTM version of W7x64 and I am still having issues. The computer has run twice overnight w/o incident but when I am using the computer, web browsing or watching a video on Hulu the system restarts itself the same as it had been. The difference now is that it hasn't done it when just idling.

Still no dump files or any indication on whats happening. I have disconnected the Garmin and it is still happening. I can't find any information in the system logs.

The next step will be switching over to a PS2 keyboard and seeing if the problems still occur. Next step after that is moving the Logitech G5 mouse to PS2 with the adapter. If that's still going on I plan to start small on repairing it. The PSU will be first and if that doesn't fix it then I will end up replacing my motherboard and processor.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Crashes with no BSOD or dump

I've been reading this with interest. I've just started having these symptoms since I installed the game Divinity Two: Ego Draconis. Every now and then, the system reboots without warning. No BSOD and no dump files (I've checked all the settings everyone's mentioned and memory dumps are enabled, etc).

I've updated the video and sound drivers and uninstalled and reinstalled the game. No change.

I'm starting to suspect that the problem is the SAPPHIRE HD 4850 DP 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E graphics card, an overclocked one that I added a while ago but which has simply never been pushed as hard as this game pushes it before, and that this is overtaxing the 300W standard PSU that came with the machine. Could any of you more experienced types tell me if that would cause the symptoms I'm having?

Many thanks (in anticipation). Jim
