does anyone know if there is any official windows 7 support for the asus a8n-sli premium motherboard?

i have looked on the asus support website and it doesn't list windows 7 as one of the available operating systems do download drivers for.

Welcome to seven foruma Matt26: As of now you can use the Vista drivers in compatibility mode http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html It's a Nforce 4 board, Which Nvidia hasn't provided windows seven drivers for yet and may not ever Fabe

that's what i thought- i'm planning on playing mainstream games on this computer, so i think it would be best to stick with xp or even vista for the hardware support, correct?

Matt if it helps any I have the little brother of your motherboard (A8N SLI SE, in a second computer) and installed Win 7 x64 on it not too long ago and it is working just fine with the default Windows drivers. Not running RAID on it so no idea if 7 has a driver for that, but Win 7 had drivers for everything else.

I'll second this. Installed Windows 7 on one of those boards on Friday and everything worked straight out of the box all bar one component and an online drivers search sorted that out instantly.

Let me guess, the ATK0110 ACPI Utility.

that's interesting... i have a number of devices that are not recognized in device manager, and i cannot connect to the Internet to download and install windows updates because the network controller i'm using (marvell yukon) is recognizing my home network as an unidentified network.

any ideas on how i might be able to resolve this networking issue?

well i've got Internet access now... i tried using the nforce network controller on my motherboard and i was able to get all of the available windows updates.

i still have a couple of items that are not recognized in device manager- i tried doing a search for the drivers via the windows 7 setup disc and online but nothing was available.

in my case, i'm using the 64 bit version of windows 7 ultimate- would this have any bearing on the issues i'm having with finding drivers for all of my hardware?

What is it showing for the unknown devices?

they show up as unidentified items.

i removed the 64-bit version and installed the 32-bit version and now everything is recognized properly, so i'm guessing there aren't any 64-bit drivers available for whatever items weren't being recognized properly in the 64-bit version.

one interesting thing i noticed- in the 32-bit version all 4 GB of RAM are recognized- i thought that 32-bit OSs had a limitation of only being able to see around 3 GB at the most?

Recognized yes, available is another story.

Which begs the question are they something that is motherboard specific or something added on (video, card, sound card, mouse, keyboard, etc)?

Evening everyone,

It might have sound strange but I have installed Windows 7 Professional 32bit about 5 times now and it is giving more problems then anything else.

It ran fine on first day of install and it picked up everything, just ACPI for ATK0110 was not found but that was installed from Asus support website under Vista driver mode.

On the second day the machine was giving random errors such as "Kernel Power Error" Event ID 41. I first thought it might be a PSU or a graphics driver or sound driver. I updated all but no luck. It just didn't want to stay up. Kept crashing and reebooting. It then came upto the power where it started saying "No OS found. Press DEL+ALT+CTRL to reeboot".

Currently the machine is keep reebooting itself and not even going onto Windows. I tried to run a system startup fix but no luck, the Restore option is not working either (When I ran recovery it said Memory Error at [Some memory location]).

I have run a memtest and it did not find any problems with my memory. I even ran Windows Memory Diagnostic test and it didn't find any errors either.

I am assuming it is to do with nVidia Chipset which is not upto date with WIndows 7. I don't know.

I think best bet is to stick to XP unless someone has found nVidia Chipset driver for this board which works with Windows 7?

Regards

Jehanzeb

Sorry to resurrect this rather elderly thread but I will soon be attempting installing Windows 7 64bit Home OEM on a separate drive on my A8N-SLI Premium MB. I have XP running on the first drive.

This thread is dated December 2009 so I hope things may be more 'sorted' now and drivers will be available, I see this seems to be the main cause of problems. I am not running raid setup as basically I did not really understand the raid system so have the two drives connected to the IDE connectors.

IF you have the setup, A8N-SLI Premium with Windows 7 64bit running on it would you please let me know any pitfalls I may come across, I note the mention of "ATK0110 ACPI Utility" as a problem but there seems no further mention of this?

I would like to replace MB and CPU but redundancy means lack of funds :(

How's your setup now Stormy 13?

Many thanks.

I questioned ASUS as to whether this MB and Windows 7 are compatible, below is the reply I received:

I am afraid to say this motherboard does not support Windows 7 formally at present.
The onboard devices may not work normally.
To ensure stable performance, I suggest you use Windows XP or VISTA for a while, but if now you still need install Windows 7, maybe you could use VISTA drivers for a test.
Or you could do as follows to update the drivers to Win7. Right click "computer"->manage->device manager->right click the hardware device for example audio device->update driver software->search for the drivers automatically. Then the system will search for updated driver and then download to install automatically.

I have decided, for the sake of my sanity, to stick with XP until funds allow the purchase of new MB and CPU. I was looking forward to a nice new system to play with. Oh well, saved some money I suppose!!

I would have thought that the Windows 7 upgrade adivsor would have checked motherboard hardware as well as printers, graphics card, modem, sound cards etc.
