OK, so I am new to this place, (obviously so) and am not sure where to post this thread, so I will start here

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and am trying to install Office 2007 Enterprise Edition. When i pop in the bloody CD, it says "Can't Run. You must be an Administrator to install Office 2007".

This is my computer, I am the only admin on it. Under the manage Computer option, all checks are ticked (Read, Write, Modify, etc...). I am in the Group, Administrators. So what the bloody hell is the deal here, why am I not being recognized as an Admin? And furthermore, how can I tell this blasted lump of circuits that I AM the admin?

Thank you in Advance, Gentleman

Rayven

Navigate to the installer on the CD - setup.exe or setup.MSI or similar.

Right click on the file and select "run as administrator"

This is due to the dual nature of the admin accounts on win7 (and vista), takes a little getting used to but the added security can prevent malware from completely trashing a machine.

If you wish to have the system run more like XP you can switch off UAC but I would always suggest you try to get used to the improved security

Im not really looking for more suggestions of that blasted account, I just want to know if there is any other way I can enable my account... the admin.... to have basic blasted privs to install stuff

Ugh sorry... as soon as I posted, yours popped up. I did that as well, and it did indeed work... But yesterday, I have Windows 7 Home Premium and DIDNT have to do that. Now that I have Ultimate, I do.. I dont understand why that is. Thank you again

The UAC security in Premium and ultimate should operate the same - although sometimes the actual installer is written to ask the user for "elevation" to Admin rights and can thus appear to work differently.

I wonder sometimes why one would use MS products if they hate them so much. I would download Ubuntu 9.1 right now and try that.....see how much "better" that is. Good luck

I actually do blame Microsoft for a lot of the confusion and many of the issues surrounding users running as admin.

I come from a professional IT background involving Client-Server networks where it would be unheard of for a user to run an administrator account as their default.

When Microsoft combined their Professional and home product lines with the release of XP They chose the easy route of making the first default user an admin without any advice the user on the "Best Practice".

This has led to developers, users, and the malware writers to expect the presence of the Admin user.

The abuse of the Admin user by malware has led Microsoft to implement UAC to try to move the user to adopt the old safer practice of a standard user elevated to admin only when needed.

personally I find UAC as a benefit which allows me to more easily work to my "normal" policy, but I can sympathise with those users who find it annoying

They made a mistake in the past and are trying to rectify it...if any sympathy I would give it there...

UAC is much much better than people give credit for...I can run a limited account and elevate only when needed...very good security practice and if you look at OSX or linux...you see it is already been implemented...
