Radeon Mobility HD 4570 Not working after win 7 upgrade

Oh yeah. I didn't realize that this was the thread about the 2 different gpus. I just read the latest comment(s) and replied.

So ya, ATI is the best chance here.

This is only a temporary solution until Acer or ATI release a driver or Power Xpress that is compatible with Windows 7 but

I now have my HD 4570 working.
Power Xpress won't switch between them automatically anymore, but at least you'll have the graphics you've paid for, and you can still switch between the two graphics cards manually if you wish to!

This will also work with other ATI dual graphics cards systems on Windows 7 using Power Xpress.

Proof that it's working for me:

Windows user experience rating with 3200 was 3.8. After fiddling about I now have 4.1 (see attached images) and the 3D gaming rating is up at 5.9. I'm 99.9% sure this HAS worked for me, I can't see how my rating would have gone up if it hasn't started using the 4570.

So how did I do it?

Firstly, bear in mind that you may not have all the exact same issues I had, but this will probably still get your powerful GPU working. It seems the problem varies a little between different people (probably because of the other stuff they've tried to do to fix it). Just plough through it and let us know how it worked out for you!

Well first I totally removed all the ATI software. Go to "uninstall a program" (can type it into start menu box) find ATI isntall manager (or a name similar to that) and uninstall it. Express uninstall everything. Then reboot. Update the drivers for the 4570 graphics card. The code 10 error should now be gone. If it isn't, go into safe mode (keep hitting F8 on start up to get to it), go into "Device manager" (type that into start menu box for quick access too - this is also where you check for the code 10 error), uninstall both drivers and make sure on uninstalling you ccheck the box that says "Delete driver software for this device". Just to be safe, I recommend running Driver Sweeper as the other person suggested to make sure it's all gone. Then reboot. When windows launches, it should search for and install the drivers for you - you may need to be connected to the internet.

Now if you've succesfully got both drivers installed and updated, with no code 10 error, you may notice this strange little gem, which is the key to the whole problem: moving your mouse cursor to the right edge of the screen, it should keep going past the edge and moving left again take a while to reappear. This is because Windows is treating the two graphics cards as extended desktops on two displays. Your 4570 IS working, but it's outputting to a non-existent display (hence why the other guy here got it working on a projector). Don't worry if you don't have this issue, this will probably still get your 4570 working.

To solve this is really simple. Right click desktop, click screen resolution. See those two monitors? AHA! Click identify. Whichever number appears on your screen, you want to set the "Multiple displays" option to "show desktop only on __" where the number is the OTHER number (NOT the one that popped up on your sccreen). Click apply. Voila! Your 4570 hits you smack bang in the face!

To check it all worked, run the user experience rating thing. It should push up the score somewhat. If it didn't work, try the other display number in the multiple display setting. If it still doesn't work, I've obviously forgotten something special I did, and if you let me know I'll try and work it out for you ASAP.

To switch between the cards: couldn't be easier, just right click desktop, select screen resolution and change the "Show desktop only on __" to the other display number. On mine "2" is the HD 4570 and "1" is the HD 3200.

Hi Seb
you are a life saverI had the same problem emailed Acer the only advise they sent me was to reinstal the update disc with the drivers needless to say the 4570 HD card still not working, followed your temp fix and now the card has been reconised and I can tell the difference in speed that it is working
The trouble as youy say the two do not switch between cards how do I switch between the cards ?
I sent Acer a snotty reply saying it may pay them to sort out these problems before they advertise up grade to windows 7 once again thanks

I haven't messed about with anything since sorting Seb's fix.

Buzzlight - you should be able to switch between the cards by rightclicking your desktop, --- then clicking monitor resolution ----- and changing between "monitor 1" and "monitor 2". You need to change the numbers on both display AND multiple display. That should do it.

In my experience the 3200 doesn't seem to make a tremendous difference to battery life, so happy with the 4570 for now

Working on Win 7 32 but not 64

I was having the same issue post upgrade to Win 7 32 Home on my Acer Aspire 7535G. Thanks to Seb I was able to at least get the Radeon 4570 working after following his instructions.

I then however upgraded to Windows 7 64 Professional so I could utilise all of the 4GB memory and have been unable to get the Radeon 4570 working since, even using Seb's workaround solution. Very frustrating... is any one else hitting the same wall using Windows 7 64 on the Acer Aspire 7535G and if so has anyone managed to get the Radeon 4570 working on it (i.e. without the 'Code 10' error?).

Regards & Many Thanks,

Paul.

Fix won't work with 64-bit Windows 7?

Same here:

7535G, Win 7 Ultimate 64--the fix posted above doesn't seem to be working for me, I still get the code 10 error and the HD4570 won't start. Is this common to all 64-bit installs? The workaround does work with 32-bit Win7 but not with the 64-bit version?

This is absurd, how long are Acer and/or ATI going to leave us with crippled graphics?

As the Angry Scots Worms would say, "this is pure crap by the way!"...

Did you install the 64 bit drivers for the graphics card from the Acer or ATI website? Maybe torrentg can help you, the code 10 error goes away when you get a better driver for the card, the rest of the workaround should still be the same for you once you have a working driver.

Hi Seb, Thanks for your response. I have tried installing 64 bit graphics drivers from both ATI & Acer and have not managed to get rid of the code 10 issue. I looked back at the 'Torrentg' messages in the thread that I suspect you are referencing but I suspect my limited technical knowledge is letting me down here as I am unclear what he is suggesting doing regarding editing the " '.inf' for any graphics card... etc." Is this something you think may fhelp fix the issue.

Many Thanks, Paul.

I don't know if this will help but Gateway released newer drivers for most of their ATI mobility line.

I tried the driver from Acer, the one from ATI and the Mobility Mod (64 bit all of them); then Windows Update usually says it has a newer driver available, but it doesn't matter whether I install it or not, the 4570 won't start, always reporting error code 10.

I'm at a loss, I don't know what else to do except wait for a new driver from Acer or ATI--but this is frustrating and absurd, how can they launch a product without proper drivers? As I understand it, the Puma platform has been around for a while, and I kinda think they saw Windows 7 coming, or did they???

I don't know if this will help but Gateway released newer drivers for most of their ATI mobility line.

Do you think they might install/work on an Acer laptop? Or could it be a sort of sign that Acer might release updated driver relatively soon?

Gateway drivers don't work...

Thanks 'rflair' for your suggestion.. I have tried the new Gateway drivers and unfortunately the same issue... I am aware there is a new Bios on the Acer site (2.04)... anyone think this could fix the issue? I'm not that techy and have been a bit disconcerted around the warnings and dangers of flashing a BIOS in terms of trashing motherboard potential so this is something I have not tried... Acer support refused to comment as to whether it would fix issue and said if I do it is is my own risk... of course if I phone their premium number they will be able to fix the issue... erm I think NO!???? Does anybody suggest whether they think a BIOS update could have potential to fix this kind of issue?

Many Thanks,

Paul.

Funny, until yesterday (or the day before) there were two BIOS versions on the Acer support page, 3342 and 3344. I couldn't install either of those as the BIOS flash utility reported some error (corrupted source, or something like that).

I'm trying now with version 2.04 and I'll let you know.

Let's hope this works... :sarc:

New BIOS won't install

No luck (AGAIN!!!): the new BIOS won't install, reporting error 0x4d0 (whatever that means). I also tried running the flash utility as administrator, but it doesn't seem to change anything. I'm getting a feeling that there's some problem with Acer supplied bios flashing utilities under Win7 (at least the 64-bit version).

Maybe tomorrow I'll swap the internal hard disk with a spare one I got, try install XP on that and then flash the bios again... Who knows, maybe it'll work...

4570 Now Working on Win 7 Pro 64!

I don't quite know why it has worked this time as I have tried this previously as suggested on this forum (may be using I'm using a different driver this time though?) but I now have my 4750 gpu working on Win 7 64!

I was inspired by 'dam89' at the following forum to retry using Mobility Moder to 'mod' a gpu driver (ATI HD 3200 & HD 4570 in laptop not working - Windows 7 Forums)

I downloaded Mobility Moder (http://www.radeon.ru/downloads/modtool/MMDotNETSetup.exe) and also the the 'Windows 7 64 Bit Edition - Radeon - Radeon HD 4550 driver' from the ATI site (Graphics Drivers & Software).

I then unistalled all ATI software via control panel and to ensure all evidence of it was gone I ran drive sweeper (Guru3D - Driver Sweeper) to delete any thing left.

After a restart I double clicked on the downloaded driver so it extracted to C:\ATI\Support and cancelled it before it installed.

I then installed and ran Mobility Modder and using 'browse' located the driver folder within C:\ATI\Support\.... I ensured Disable UAC box was ticked and then clicked Modify. This modifed the driver.

Once done I disabled the 3200 gpu via Device Manager and then ran the setup file in the modified driver folder (c:\ATI\Support\[Driver Folder Name]\Setup.exe).

Once this had installed I was prompted to reboot and once restarted I checked device manager and both the 3200 gpu and the 4570 gpu (it shows as ATI MOBILITY RADEON 4530/4570) are running OK (NO 'CODE 10' & NO '!') :)

As with Sebs solution you can then simply switch between gpu's by switching displays (one is on a virtual display and the other is the actual display under screen resolution) or you can disable the 3200 gpu in device manager so the 4570 alone will be in use.

To prove it is working my windows experience index is now 4.1.

Thanks to all for your helpful discussion and information... I hope this fix works for you as well. :D

I did exactly this and my rating droped down to 2.7. Also both cards were running very slow after doing this. Any advice?

Hi all,

I haven't tried HDMI but I've been using the VGA output so perhaps it is the same. As with switching between the two cards, right click your desktop and choose screen resolution. With the HDMI connected, click detect and hopefully it should show an additional two monitors (so 4 in total now). You need the settings so that it duplicates your desktop on monitors 1 and 2 or 3 and 4. With the VGA on mine, it labels the new ones as "projector" so maybe it does something similar that will help for HDMI.

In Response to Lewisa123...

... erm that's strange... works for me fine... have you tried following the same process with some different drivers... i.e. the ATI driver on the Acer Support website for this model of laptop?... (available from: Service & Support )?
