Hotfix for 3 Stop errors resuming from Sleep/Hibernate

You receive various Stop error messages in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you resume a computer that has a large SATA hard disk

   Warning

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

   Information

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
• The computer has a Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disk.
• The size of the SATA hard disk is large. For example, the size of the SATA hard disk is 1 terabyte (TB).
• You put the computer into the Sleep state or into the Hibernate state.
• You try to resume the computer.

In this scenario, you receive one of the following Stop error messages:

• STOP 0x0000007A
• STOP 0x00000077
• STOP 0x000000F4

   Information

When you resume a computer, the SATA hard disk drivers require the SATA hard disks to be ready within 10 seconds. However, a large SATA hard disk may take longer than 10 seconds to be ready. In this situation, the resume operation times out.

I have that problem but... my monitor simply doesn't give any signal. So, if it gives any STOP, I don't see it.

Me : 2 SATA : 200GB and 500GB... but no single hard drive that is that big.
* You put the computer into the Sleep state or into the Hibernate state.
Me : I've put accidentaly while I tried to remap a keyboard button........ otherwise never but still, I would if I knew it was working.
* You try to resume the computer.
Me : Yeah, but, there's no display when I do (can't even see the BIOS)

My minidump from the BSOD i had, according to the analysis, is a 0x1000007E, so, this hotfix isn't for me.

No.

You have a P35 chipset. I have an X48. These chipsets have issues with S3 mode and posting. Did you make a bios update?

I only have 1 update for my machine and Win7., but the issues are still there.

There is a Microsoft whitpaper on HAL issues and S3 mode.

That was seen in the required sign up for hotfix request where you provide your email address for the presently "untested" hotfix according to the MS email that came in. This apparently is a beta form of the hotfix. So use with some caution.

I just downloaded this.

However, my Hibernate works fine, but it will not wake from sleep. I do not get a BSoD, it just does not start back up...

I am not sure if this will work for me

As indicated by the warning there it hasn't been thoroughly tested. That will take some time so be prepared for a wait. It still has a few bugs to work out before it's considered ready for a general release or included in the SP1 for 7.
