I have a 500gb Seagate drive hooked up to run the system on & an additional 1tb Seagate as a second drive but the second drive doesn't show up in My Computer. It does show two drives in BIOS & Device Manager but I have no access to it at all. How do I format it & assign a drive letter to it? It is a fresh, brand new drive with no files on it whatsoever. I figured Win7 would set it up for me like my XP machine did.

Start >> Right Click "Computer" >> Manage >> Disk Management

And then you'll need to right click the drive and format it.

Thanks guys!
That worked. Now I just hooked up an old hdd of mine that I have in an enclosure through the USB port & it doesn't recognize it anywhere, BIOS, device manager or by going through the steps above. It's an old IDE drive that I have set up at two partitions, what do I have to do to get Win7 to let me access that one?

I backed up a bunch of my personal files on this drive & I'd like to copy them over to the second hdd that you guys just helped me set up. TIA.

Is it an IDE HD that you put in a USB enclosure? If IDE the jumper on the HD should be set to single or master. How is it powered?

Well, it's kind of bootlegged. I have a USB to IDE adapter & then I'm using one of the power cables from my power supply to power it. I have the jumper in the slave position, so that's probably the issue?

Power from the power supply is the best source.

I use a USB tri-head adapter ;)

Yep, the one I have is a double headed one. I has an IDE side & one that works for my laptop drive (whatever type that is). I switched the jumper to the master position & it recognized it right away. I guess I'm full of simple problems with simple solutions tonight.
