My Letter " I " Problem in Win 7 Dictionary

What in windows controls the dictionary function of the built in spell checker and what does it effect and how do I configure it? Here's why...

The letter " I " as a standalone letter should Never be lowercase in the English language (unless it is by itself as part of a string of letters for a serial number or the like, which is Not the norm.)

The spell checker will recognize proper names and other things that it knows are supposed to be in all caps and prompt me to Cap them if I fail to. It never does this if I type the letter I by itself like this: i <-- It Should prompt me for this as generally this is an illegal function of grammar.

I want to find a way to fix this so the spell checker can auto correct this everytime I type an " i " by itself and make it a capitol letter.

At least it would be nice if the spell checker caught this mistake to help me proof read what I type!

Does it matter what editing software I use? I could use word pad, notepad or another ( I never use Office - can't stand Office)

Btw, Can I replace windows 7 word pad with windows XP word pad? I hate the new one too. Or at least get rid of that stupid ribbon ?

I notice all spell checkers on web forums like this one behave the same way. Is this a function of the Windows spell checker or something in the forum software?

I'm not buying that. If they did it because " I " is a vowel does not make since because that has nothing to do with it's standing by itself. It can only really be used as a vowel when its surrounded by other letters.

Anyway.. I don't care why they think they did it.. I need to fix it Somehow. The Spell Checker should let you you do that.. give broader definitions for its failing garmmer.

But it is not spelled wrong so there is nothing for the spell checker to alert you too. What you are after is grammar checking. Btw Windows has no builtin spell checker, that is handled by individual software.

Hi, well I don't see a spell checker in Notepad or WordPad, but maybe there is, in Word if you type the letter i in the middle of a sentence, it will highlight it, and will want to fix it for you, so maybe Office isn't as bad as you
might think, and maybe worth another try.

But that isn't the main normal popular use of the letter. I CAN expect a spell checker to be able to auto correct this and DO. That's what auto corrected functions are for!

If you have to become a better typist, that negates the need for auto correction altogether.

What you need is Microsoft Word which has all of these things configurable as well as has auto-correction.

Well you may be right. That would solve the problem one way.. but work with me here. (grin) Don't force a crappy Microsoft App on me. I need better options.

(Accept for the OS and Flight Simulator I refuse to use any main line MS products)

There is a set of programs I just found that has a spell checker and a gramma checker that works with any windows application. Found here Spell Check Anywhere Adds Spell Check & Grammar Check To All Programs. I have emailed these folks to see if their software will solve my problem. If so, great.. I can still use the editor of choice. I like Poly Edit and have been using it for years.

I will have to wait and see what their reply is.

Speaking of the forum editor thingy spell check, is there a method to add words to the dictionary? Seems weird that a dictionary for a forum on the internet keeps flagging the word "internet" as misspelled. I don't see a button to add words.
