Hello,

From the topic title, I have that sound card. I install the latest driver from Creative which is version 2.18.0013. Installs fine, reboots, then the AutoUpdate program comes up to install all the other applications for my device.
However, if I try to run like Creative Audio Control Panel, which got installed during driver installation, it says "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit." Even if I install the other application, it will say almost the same message, when I try opening most of them.
I have researched this and contacted creative, but they are never no help, and from what I understand, lot of people are having basically the same issue with the drivers compatibility in WIN 7? Is that correct?
Does anyone know of a solution or do I just have to wait?:sarc:
I have checked all hardware installations, and they are all good. This worked on Windows Vista x64 with my current system.

Thanks for all your replies, :)

Peyman

Does no one have a solution for me?
I have read some similar issues with my error message, but those are different Sound cards even though they are Creative. And they were no help.

If you have chipset drivers for the motherboard, reinstall the chipset drivers and then see if the SoundBlaster is recognized.

I have tried installing the Chipset Driver that came with my Motherboard Driver CD. That did not work. It does not recognize my card on my motherboard.
Under Device Manager from right Clicking on My Computer, it lists it as "Creative X-Fi audio Processor(WDM)" but it has an error message icon. Device status just says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

And other ideas? :(

if your soundblaster drivers for windows 7 are anything like the official my my card
for windows 7 you might want to give below driver pack a go

SB X-Fi Series Support Pack 2.0 (05/15/2009) - Creative Labs

I use one from the same guy and I have to say they are so much better that the creative plop

obviously they are not support by creative or me so purely at your own risk
but read the comment its the thread and make your own mind up

i have the x-fi xtreme audio pci-e card. i learned with win 7 not to allow the auto update when offered. i run with the vista drivers and utilities that are on the disk that came with my card. when i have allowed the auto update i'll either lose the card or at minimum the use of the creative utilities. your motherboard being a x58 chipset board should not have any problems with the card.

is everyone having issues with this? It happened to me today. All the sudden my sound card was no longer detected, after a quick reboot. Mine is the sb x fi extreme audio. something.

I even tired the old 2008 drivers for vista that it came with from, but nothing lets the installers work, saying it is not supported. I can try to extract the driver files, but i am not sure which is which for it, and then the other issue is i cant even locate it in device manager. I was able to see it once but it was detected as a [usb type connection] with an error/code 10. I had to enable the on-board audio for now or it would suck. I will try the unofficial one as soon as its done.

Another thing is, i got another windows 7 install (clean copy ) and it fails to install with things about unable to locate the bcd/boot manager and quickly tells me to re install and quits. I did this on a separate empty drive because i don't want to get rid of my current install. Just wanted to use the 2nd install to see if a new install
would work.

edit: the unofficial pack wont even install, i really doubt the sound card is dead after a reboot, and it was working fine before the reboot.

please create a new thread in the appropriate topic for the item in orange. thanks.

now make sure that you have anything doing with auto update turned off. i mean the creative auto update and windows auto update. not disabled just turned off. now go to device managers find your card, double click it, go to drivers, select uninstall, if it ask you to reboot tell it no, now right click you card and select uninstall, once the card is uninstalled reboot. windows should find it with it's base drivers. now you should be able to use the drivers and utilities off of your disk. i remind you do not auto update the drivers either from asus or microsoft. i actually recommend that you use no driver updates from windows update. when offered just right click and hide. this problem goes back to creatives generation of cards, and this solution usually does the trick for me.

One question..... was this on a clean install or on an upgrade install. I had a similar problem with my first clean install and transferring my stuff over using Easy File Transfer. Since I was having the freezing issue, I had done another clean install, deleting all of the drivers and software that was on the computer while it had XP Pro SP3. I was able to install the current Win7 Drivers and software and all is working.

I am sorry about posting that, but it was just another bad effect since the sound went dead, and didn't mean i wanted help on it. It was a side effect, because I have installed windows 7 before and it worked perfectly and made to point it out if anyone had something like that happen.
And how would i disable the auto update from creative. i shut of the windows update.
and the other bad thing is, my sound card isn't even located in device manager. It managed to appear once but it was configured a a usb host/usb driver instead, 1 out of 20 tires and the others just never appear.

Not to hijack but it was 1 clean empty 500 gb clean/clean 64 bit disc with disconnected from other HD/ and another try with connected. anything in the book basically.

It is important to connect the X-Fi before installing the Software as described in the Product Documentation. If you had connected the card after the Software has been installed some Creative Applications might not be able to detect the card. This is due to an improper Driver used by the card. Uninstall any software connected with you device and disconnect your device. Reboot system then connect your device back and then install software.

I have done everything! Nothing is working!!!
I've formatted my PC, and installed only what came on the X-Fi CD which was the Vista driver.
I turned off Auto Update. I didn't even see an update that had anything to do with sound. After, I installed the Vista driver that came on with the CD.
I've taken out the card, cleaned out my system with dirt and everything, and reinstalled everything.
I used that Patch that one member recommended I use.
Nothing is detecting my Sound Card!!! Under Manage it would list SB X-Fi under 'Sound, video games, and controller' and it will say it's functioning, but when I try and open most of the Creative Programes, it says "Audio Device Supported by this Application is not Detected"
I may try and put it in another system of mine to see if it will work on it. I have to put it together first though.
It could very possible by a hardware issue since nothing is working.

Anyways, thanks for everyone that tried to help me.

BEFOR MOVING THE CARD MAKE SURE THAT YOU UNINSTALL ALL OF THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVES AGAIN. THEN SHUT DOWN THE SYSTEM AND MOVE THE CARD.

Anyways, thanks for everyone that tried to help me.

one last thing is it pci or pci-e? whichever it is if you can switch the slot it is in do it. there are a lot of times that this all it takes to correct a hardware problem. it seems to be the only thing you have left. while your at it once more make sure that any on-board sound is disabled in your bios.

BEFORE YOU SHUTDOWN THE SYSTEM TO MOVE THE CARD MAKE SURE THAT YOU UNINSTALL ITS SOFTWARE AND DRIVES THEN SHUTDOWN AND MOVE THE CARD.

I'll make sure I'll do that, I tried putting it on a PCI-E, but I have to big graphic cards and lot of wiring, it was difficult to work around them, this time I'm just going to take one of the graphic cards out, and just use one and put the sound card on the PCI-E. Maybe that will work. If not, I'll put my other system together on another case I have, and I'll install my Vista x64 on it, maybe Windows 7 just can't pick up my device.

Thanks,

i took a look at you card at creative and from what i saw it is pci not pci-e. if i got the mobo right you have you have 4 pci-e slots including the 3 for vid cars, and you have 2 pci slots. a pci card will not plug into a pci-e slot and visa versa.

Well just like everyone else here mine doesn't get detected even on a fresh windows 7 or windows vista install. I will try to install xp and try out with that. Its a good thing my school offers Microsoft OS or i don't know what i would do.

But what if your sound card is dead guys? I think that may be a possibility also, while you were handling it did you ground yourself/ anti-static wrist band or the pci itself might be damaged, no power?
I am stuck using the on-board until i have more spare time to check everything out again.

My Audio Card is a PCI, correct. I'm going to take it apart today, I'll try it in another system and I'll let you all know.
I had ground myself prior of touching any electronic component. Power for card comes up. Guess I'll see if it's the sound card or Windows 7 that is the problem later today.:)

Well my problems finally ended today after some pure dumb luck. My sound card is PCI so everyone knows.

I preceded with shutting off my computer failing to un-install any of the creative software and auto update, except the auto update doesn't run unless told to do so and wont install unless i say so.
Took apart every single wire and replugged them in as any other time. Took out the graphics and sound card and put them back in again. After that i restarted and i was able to just see the SB X-fi spdif option but no sound or sound jacks. Just rebooted and disabled the on-board sound in bios since i forgot it was enabled. After another reboot i went into device manager and my sb x-fi card was there but i un-installed the driver and rebooted again and then device manager again and made it scan for an update after enabling 'show hidden devices'. Nothing worked until the next reboot then my sound was working fine after I let it auto update from "MICROSOFT" not 'creative auto update'. I am going to junk the creative software and trust Microsoft on this one.

*Note the creative auto update even fails to notice my card is installed so I am not sure, so I strongly reccemond using the Microsoft updater instead*

and well thats how mine started working after doing the same steps 4 times already but slight different methods and installing another OS
