Firewall- Windows 7 equivalent to Vista/xp setting

In windows 7 how do you set the windows firewall setting to the equivalent vista/xp win firewall setting "On - Block all incoming connections (no exceptions)" is there an easy way to do this in windows 7?

To access the Firewall settings, just type firewall in the start search box.

Go to start > type in 'firewall' (no quotes) in search > choose Windows Firewall with Advanced security > at the top click Action > then properties > then under inbound connections choose the dropdown that says block all connections

thanks redsoxm16, that is a very clear response. Will that affect printer sharing? How about network?
I like win7 but one short coming is the "action center" which is bewildering. Much easier in xp/vista. In order to win over Mac users (I know many who are considering win7 b/c mac is too$$$) this stuff should be automated and not rely on the end user in my opinion (while still allowing advanced users to customize.) Maybe they'll make it simpler in win7 sp2 or 3.

I'm not sure what it will affect because I have different settings. If you find it affects those areas please post back here so people can learn.

"block all connections" does seem to prevent mapping of netwrk drives (both when I set that on vista and win7), once undone the map dr re-appears. Did not seem to prevent printing (printer share is on the vista machine).

the reason this whole issue came up is i did a netstat -a report on my vista machine and I noticed many open ports that I have no idea what they're for, so for security I set "block all" on firewall. I have many programs on my vista machine

my config is a network behind a router with vista/vista desktops and a win7 lptp

99% sure it will block the torrent and I doubt it'll block windows update

You will find as long as you block inbound icmp - you will get a perfect score.

Outbound is something else.

There is a little app. there called LEAKTEST file download to test outbound - everything gets thru by default on Vista/7.

It will block inbound connections, but not outbound connections. There is no setting to block all outbound connections, just a setting to block all outbound connections that do not have an explicit firewall setting.

Yes , sounds good - I have been using WFC to control outbound for a long while - it is great.

Did you look to make sure you aren't advertising your presence by responding to ping requests?

It is set up to respond by default - set up rules to prevent inbound icmpv4 and icmpv6 requests.

no need to apologize issue was addressed..glad to see thread lead to good questions and comments, excellent suggestions by advanced members... never a simple linear issue when it comes to tech...a side note I set up an ftp server and had so many problems with windows firewall I switched to zone alarm &it worked...and yes, I did open port 21, and data port 20, and added the server program to allowed services...tried everything in the book, the FTP server programs (had the same issue w/fillzilla, servu, a few others), simply wouldn't work with winfirewall. eventually settled on Quick n' Easy FTP Server, but others good too. FTP is so great you can share files without all the b.s. ftp is making a huge comeback b/c people are fed up with the clutter on the web (too many ads, too many options, too many flash ads, register for this/that ugh)
