"Favorites in IE"

I'm running a brand new 64 bit HP PC and using IE in Windows 7.
I recently chose to Organize Favorites by Name to alphabetize them.
However, as I add new Favorites they just add on to the bottom of the list.
The new Favorites do not insert themselves alphabetically amongst those already saved.

Can the new Favorites be automatically arranged alphabetically with the others, or do I have to take them one by one, highlight them, hold down the mouse and slide them into their proper space.

I thought the new Favorites would arrange themselves alphabetically as IE is closed and reopened but not so.

In lieu of registry changes and such, the answer is no, as far as I know. I just alphabetize when I am ready to use. It is just one step and not a problem.

What do you mean,"You just alphabetize when you are ready to use"?

Are you saying you can alphabetize all Favorites at any time?

The "Organize by Name" feature is no longer appearing.

No, what I am saying you have a favorites folder, vacation. You want to make at trip. You go into vacation folder and alphabetize. You do not do it individually. You put the cursor on one of the favs, in vacation, and right click.

Gee, if you did each one individually, it would be an all day affair.

The folders just appear in the alphabetized order as I create them.

Hope that I have helped.

Okay Richard,
I see what you are doing.
My Favorites are not saved in a Folder.
They are all just saved in the main Favorites list.

Then I think the answer to your question is no. Everyone has different needs and expectations, but for me the folders are essential. How many favorites do you have? If enough to be concerned about alphabetizing, it may serve you well to set up folders.

I am sure there are many different topics covered in your favorites, categorzie by subject and alphabet is a real time saver.

In lieu of my suggestion. There are many other browsers, out there. Maybe one of them will suit your needs

I have included a link to MS information about your question.

I hope that you can find an acceptable solution for you situation

Thanks Richard,
For me it's much easier to keep track of links alphabetically instead of trying to remember what folders they might be in.
Nearly all my info pertains to Cars, Scale Models, Auto Paint and Distributors for all of them.

Derekimo,
Thanks,
In C>User>Favorites I am able to highlight all the links at one time and will be placing them in an overall Everything Folder.
There they will automatically alphabetize as I add more links.

Since my PC is new I only have around 80 Favorites at the moment.
As Richard says,
This may be the time to think about categorizing new links as I add them in the future.

It never fails,
This place always offers up good solutions,

My Favorites are not saved in a Folder.
Sure they are. It is just not obvious they are in a folder.

If you click on Favorites, then right click on Favorites Bar, don't you see a Sort by Name option? This option works for folders and links too.

On the contrary Digerati,
Once you click onto the Sort By Name Option it does not reappear again as an option for the Main Favorites List, which as I said, is where my Favorites are all currently stored.

I do not click onto a Folder to view the Main List of Favorites.
They simply are listed in the Favorites Menu.

You were given a good remedy already, but that reply let me realize that there is another solution.

In your favorites folder make another folder, call it whatever, we can call it favorites 2. Put favs in second folder, then it should sort.

Once you click onto the Sort By Name Option it does not reappear again as an option for the Main Favorites List
What? That's odd. It does for me on two Win7 machines here. Or perhaps I don't understand what you mean, or exactly where you are clicking. If I click on Favorites, then right click on "Favorites Bar" or another folder, I see Sort by Name every time - the Sort by Name option may be in a different position in the right-click menus, but it's there.

If I click on Favorites, then select Organize Favorites, Sort by Name is there each time too. If you are saying the option is completely gone, and not just grayed out, then I don't know what is going on.

These are ARE all folders BTW, with subfolders too, just displayed differently. The Favorites button is just an Icon for a shortcut to the Favorites folder. And the favorites or bookmarks, are just shortcuts to URLs. Sadly, you cannot go to the folder in Windows Explorer, sort by name, then find them already sorted in Internet Explorer. :(

Are you the only user of that machine?

The Favorites Bar is what used to be call Links. I use it a lot, with a dozen folders, full of favorites. There are no favorites on the bar, only folders, labeled so I can find what I want fast. Sort by Name is there. If you have many (100s) of favorites, I recommend you navigate to your Favorites folder, create a bunch of folders, categorize your shortcuts by dragging them into the folders.

That said, getting back to your opening post. If you add a new favorite, it does indeed go to the bottom of the list. But with folders across the Favorites bar, at least you can just drag it into the right folder, hopefully with only 20-30 favorites, instead of 100s to scroll past. ;)

It is probably better each folder must be sorted individually. Some files within are best sorted alphabetically, some by time stamp, filetype, etc.
