Best browser is really subject to personal preference.
Fastest? True some are faster than others, but the difference truly isn't much.

You can try Firefox or Opera.

but i have a feeling it will not be much better. IE8, Chrome, Firefox, Opera
are the 4 main ones. Each better than others in their own way.

I would advise:
Try them all for a little bit. See which one you prefer the best, and suits your needs the best. All of them are good browsers.

Wishmaster is right, each browser has its fans, and there is no one right answer.

Well I thought Chrome was fast, I mean it was at the beginning when it first came out, so fast that I kept it at default browser from FF.

Now IE 8 loads a lot faster, but sticking with Chrome, though sometimes I run into "not applicable with your browser" websites and have to go with IE8, so now I use both. Like Wishmaster says, its personal preference.

Many agree that Chrome is the best (subjective opinions). I do not use it because of a big limitation, it does not work on all websites. Works on almost all but not all.

I think it would be better put that many agree that Chrome is the fastest...while Firefox is the most stable/versatile...Internet Explorer 8 is the most compatible...Opera is the most well rounded....

really it's just a personal choice, i personally recommend that you keep 2 browsers on any pc. i keep firefox on and thats what i use along with various plug-ins that while maybe not making it faster makes it more pleasant to use. the other browser i use varies often changing between the top choices as they offer new features i want to test out. the biggest benefit to having multiple browsers though, is it seems someone always wants to check something and i prefer opening an alternating browser as opposed to having them mess with my settings and saved passwords and what not.

I actually disabled IE8, because I never use it. Anywhere I needed it to go , I can go with IE tab in Firefox. I haven't ever tried Chrome, Opera, or any other one, but I love my Adblock Plus and NoScript with Firefox.....so I guess paranoia wins out.;)

Satalite Internet. Where I live it's uber slow.
In answer to your question I'm going for chrome to be faster. Not only does it render pages much quicker but opening a new tab is instantaneous. With the others there is a slight delay,

I don't use add on(s) so chrome is my browser of choice.

NB: there are now extensions if you wish to use them.

Hi there
"browser speed" is usually dependenant these days on three factors

1) YOUR Internet connection speed (including your LAN if you go through a Router)

2) The "Target" web site's speed - this is also dependent on the Hosting site's Internet connection, the number of users currently logged on and if it's say a Web site hosted on a Home network then the UPLOAD speed will influence your speed -- most Broadband connections while having good download speeds usually have pretty horrible UPLOAD speeds.

3) the speed of the DNS servers in resolving the web addresses.

Other factors - but to a lesser extent are -- the code the web page is written in -- if its sloppy or poor this will lower your respomse time, and whether you are opening embedded documents such as PDF's or photos.

If you are accessing a Database server then your SQL "Query" will also influence the speed - a poor query will take ages longer to resolve than a quick one.

The speed of your computer --especially these days makes very very little difference --unless you are opening large pdf's or picture files - and the browser itself doesn't make much difference either.

Incidentally ensure your OWN network is running at the highest speed -- these days you can get GIGABIT LAN connections (1000 mb/s) instead of the typical 10 / 100 mbs one's.

At work some LAN's are still running at "Glacial Speed" of 10 Mb/s. No browser twiddling will do much here - especially if there are a load of other users on the same lan.

Take it from me -- these days Browser Speed is irrelevant. Choose your Browser based on YOUR preference.

After the initial hassles with IE8 I'm quite happy with it -- Opera is another good one.

I used to like FF -- but these days like a lot of products its bcome "Bloatware" and configuring it is a major exercise.

So warts and all I'm sticking with IE8. It's integrated decently into the OS and makes automatic updating and maintenance simpler.

BTW Chrome's "performance" if it can be called that is probably due to the speed and power of Google's DNS servers rather than your typical "Under the Railway Arches" type of ISP

Cheers
jimbo
