If you find a free one please post it. My favorite free file manager for Windows is freeCommander. Unfortunately since it's implemented in Delphi there's no 64 bit version contemplated by the author.

It works on Vista64 but there are times when there's a lag.. esp. between clicking a file and it getting the selection highlight. It seems to work fine on W7 32 bit. I don't have a 64 bit version of W7 to try it there.

Explorer++ isn't perfect but the program developer is active in updating it. There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions on the download page. I use the 64-bit version and for the most part it works well. One feature that I really like is that it displays the amount of free space available on a partition in the status bar which is something Explorer does not do anymore. It is free.

I was using Ultra Explorer but it does not appear to be 64-bit.
http://www.mustangpeak.net/subdomains/ultraexplorer/

I noted that neither Ultra Explorer nor Free Commander had an Undo button.
I have found Windows undo button very handy as it so easy to accidentally move or delete a folder & then wonder where it went.

After my latest clean install I haven't bothered to reinstall either.

At present, I am resigned to using Windows Explorer until a free 64-bit replacement or addon comes along.

Ther was a brilliant program called QT TabBar which integrated with Windows Explorer and added some very useful functions. However, development seems to have ceased in Jan 2009. It worked in Vista but does not work with Windows 7.

Lol so completly trrue. Btw same question here and is their any way to disable the windows explored because it's usually the program that takes up most of my memory when my laptop is idling. Or any ways to optimize win explore because as stated above I like the un-due feature.....

To be a bit more specific, anyone know of a good free 64 bit explorer replacement that's multi-threaded and stable? I've been checking out Q-Dir. I like the basic scheme of the utility but unfortunately it appears to be single threaded. While waiting for a large file to copy you can't perform any other operations. It just seems to forget about any input while the long operations is carried out. It's too bad because if it was multi-threaded it would be a very nice little utility. Simple design.

I was able to do a file search while transferring a large file with Explorer++ so it might meet your needs. I'm using the 64-bit version. There is a link in my message above. It is free.

I tried it. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll try another approach. I've got TeraCopy 64 bit free version to do the copy. I'm going to try it with Q-Dir. That should offload the task from Q-Dir. I like Q-Dir. I'll post back in case anyone is curious, if this scheme works well.

There is none, was none and i assume will not be any.

All available today file managers lacks a little things in pursue perfection, and there is no one to dispute about: coder ALWAYS knows better. So, when you asking crucial question "64-bit?" you can be sure that in most cases you will get an stupid question as answer "what for?", and there is it. Even if you can provide an example on screencast, when copying a file manager in 32-bit mode on 64-bit OS slows down to zero and then hangs.. Even if you can show that Java code on 64-bit OS is working much faster and prove that 64-bit IS actually better, faster... But NO, coder always knows better, and try suggest something. Geez.

Total Commander always was my first choice, i used to this prog along time ago and used extensively on Univ, but for long now is abandoned by third party GOOD plugins writers, and of course, there is NONE for 64-bit wersion.. shame.

IMO, give some credit to Windows Explorer, maybe it is not what it was in the beginning, but tandem with Cyberduck works for me.
