ok when i installed Win 7 on my PC it came up with "Microsoft teredo Tunelling adapter cannot start" so i followed a guide which just said uninstall it and scan for new hardware, it will sort it out, the little yellow triangle went away, i never thought anything of it,

Now however, the girlfriends got a new laptop, and i went to set up Homegroup, Homegroup is telling me IPv6 is disabled, and the troubleshooter is telling me that "the local machine administrator has disabled Teredo" now unless im very much mistaken... thats me..... any ideas how to get it back?

If Windows said it can't start the teredo tunnel it most likely means that your router will not support the IPv6 protocol. A simple router reset will usually fix that problem. It can also be a network adaptor problem.

The problem is that it won't make your router capible of supporting IPv6 which is required for Homegroups to work properly. If it's the adaptor you should be able to update the driver for it.

You can also try updating your network driver by following these steps:
  • Right click the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
  • Update Driver Software...
  • Browse my computer for driver software
  • Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  • Select from the list and update the driver.
Also you may get this mark because the network adapter may not be compatible with Windows 7. Request you to contact the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver/adaptor that is compatible with Windows 7.

To check for compatibility in windows 7, visit the below mentioned link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

This link from Technet talks about other ways to fix the problem.

You can also try the fouth post down in this link and see if that helps.

Updating the network driver may work for you. Those links I posted should also help get it back.

If all that doesn't get it up then you may need to change a setting in the registry to get it working again. This has been an ongoing problem for a few.

1. Click Start. Search for run and press enter. In the field, type regedit and press OK.

2. In the registry, navigate to the following key.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Services
\Tcpip6
\Parameters
3. In the right pane, right-click on “DisabledComponents” and select modify. In the value data field, type “0″ (without quotations) and press OK.
4. Reboot your computer and it should work.

As you can see there are quite a few problems that it can be and it's difficult to say for sure which one is causing the problem.

I think it's important to point out that "Zone Alarm" will also cause endless problems with the IPv6 protocol. If you have it installed you need to uninstall it completly. ;)

Hi, I think I know why it didn't work for kodama. The regedit thing should work for you, but the reason you're not seeing it work is because the fix isn't sticking. When you restart, windows will automatically change the value data to 1. So you need to set the permissions of the parameters folder such that the system only has read access. Then you should see the fix stick. I realize it's been a while since this thread was active, but I just solved this issue at work and I figured there are other people that could use this information.

On a side note, here is why this came up at my work. Microsoft outlook had been having an issue where it couldn't connect to exchange servers if you left your computer for an hour or so and came back and the only way to fix this was to completely restart the computer. Well I began to notice that only a few computers were having this issue, and every single one of them teredo had a yellow exclamation mark. After applying this fix and making it stick, no more problem with outlook. Hope this helps someone!:)
