Fallout 3 on Windows 7.

I just wanted to tell, that i fixed the installation problem i reported on my own. I just used an imige file and mounted it to a virtual drive. i dont know why, but no errors occured during the whole installation.
it seems that there was a problem with my disc-drive. but if anyone should have the same issue, just try to mount an imige ;-)
The Problem with the black screen turn back is fixed, too... for me 8-)
I remember, that I had this blackscreen issue right after ibnstalling the RAFO-Mod.
to fix that you have to change the start-priority of the mod-files. how to do that is written in the read-me file, usually.

I'm experiencing what i believe is referred to as stuttering in open areas outside. All my drivers are fuly updated and GOTY is patched to version 1.7, no mods. I have tried turning of the v-sync, both in game and forced through the nvidia controls, but nothing really changed. My system should be more than able to play the game problem free. Any ideas?

the simple fact is most issues with gaming come down to either drivers not being up to date, or your hardware can't handle it. once those two have been cleared out we can look into other issues with many games especially bethseda games that frequently bring users here if your running any mods it's important that we know which mods you are using, that alone can break the game. the more information we have about your system and what the problem is the quicker we can give you a solution and the quicker you can get to playing.

While I agree that a lot of it could be hardware or driver based, it's not necessarily fact that it’s only a hardware or driver issue. Some software, especially SecuROM based games (Fallout 3) DO have issues with other software, especially imaging or copying software. For example, it been highly publicized that the use of Daemon Tools for example, will cause issues with SecuROM based games. In fact some games that use SecuROM won’t even install if you DT, or any other emulation program installed (SecuROM FAQ 2.9 Answer)

Now, is that a hardware or software issue?

Thus to say it's only a hardware issue is like saying Windows is faultless! We all know that certainly isn’t true!

As for providing the most pertinent information, for the most part that IS being done. Could it be better, yeah. Read my "How To Ask For Help" guide in my sig.

While I don't have any issues with Fallout 3 under my current W7 system, It doesn't mean others are quite so lucky, or can't have problems, so...

At any rate I would suggest you read through this entire thread before making such rash statements.

My two cents ;)

Thanks.

Two things that's been suggested by me earlier in this thread...

If you have a large save folder for the game, clean it out to no more than the last five saves.

If you have the radio turned on, turn it off.

I had a problem with both micro stuttering and crashes and both these fixes worked for me so give it a try.

Also, I would highly suggest that anyone looking for help with issues dealing with the game look through this ENTIRE thread as there are many many suggestions which may have helped someone fix their issue(s).

Good luck.

i wasn't trying to be rude, but particularly especially with newer games it's more a limitation of the computer's capabilities than anything else. but either way without the proper information we can't get to the bottom of the cause of a user's particular problem.

I just hate the "it's the hardware" stupid, or the "my game works just fine, it must be you" mentality.

Nothings perfect, especially when it comes to computers - whether it be hardware or software.

Even though I don't have issues with the game myself, I'm still trying to help those that do.

I know what it feels like to have a game you want to play but can't. I had an issue with TimeShift, for some odd reason I could never get the game to run to matter what I did. In the end a video card replacement fixed the problem. Now this might seem like I'm validating your earlier point, and it does; but I've also had issues where only a complete reinstall of either a game or Windows would fix an issue. So it cuts both ways.

Another thing about TimeShift, even though I said a video card replacement "fixed" the issue, it was a secuROM error that I was getting that was causing the problem. Kept telling me I had Daemon Tools installed, when I in fact NEVER used or loaded such software. HUH??? And the video card replacement was for a non-related issue. I also did an OS reinstall at the same time.

So, what "really" fixed TimeShift?

My point...It could have been hardware or software related, maybe even both.

Again, my two cents.

Peace.

of course not and often with many games that accept mods you can get the game to run suitably even if your well below the hardware req and i try to point those users to the right places. and obviously nothing is going to run perfectly for everyone it's unrealistic to expect that. we just do the best we can and hope that we can solve the problems, and when it's not possible suggest alternatives.

Mine not working..... when i install it and all and try to play it it just turn black and go back to normal??... any suggestions??

I would bet your video card is an OC one? If it is the case, download Rivatuner or use tools provided for your video device to underclock it a bit, lets say, use "normal" speed for you card model and the black screen should stop. I had the exact same problem and I fixed this with the technique above.

G'Luck

I doubt the poster's GeForce 8400 GS is overclocked to the point of causing the issue they have. However, if you have to underclock a stock video card, somethings wrong with it and it should be replaced as it's not working to it's intended specs.

It would also be helpful if the poster provided a little more info. Does this happen with every game? Did they try any of the other steps listed here? Is it patched?

And what exactly does this mean...???

it just turn black and go back to normal

Questions Questions Questions.

He's talking about a Crash to Desktop (CTD). I got the same Problem. I run the Fallout.exe and get kicked back to desktop after a short loading-screen (about 1sec).This is a well known problem. Bethesda reported a fix for this issue: Just put Fllout 3.exe on the "Black-List" in ffdshow settings.
But some people, like me,... got this issue and dont even have ffdshow installed on theire System...
So I dont know hiw to fix it anyway. Can someone help?

I just re-installed FO3 (non-GOTYE) + DLC and I haven't had an issue.

So I'm sorry to say, it does sound like a potential h/ware issue at this stage.

With so many people having the same issue? I think it is software compatibility.

I was referring to one particular person (I forget which now, lol)

Basically there are many different issues at play here , some will be software based, some will be hardware.

FOR SOFTWARE TESTING PURPOSES ONLY
*Please note, I am not promoting or condoning piracy*.

This is just one of many troubleshooting methodology tools available to help isolate where a particular users issue may lie. If this does not work for them, they can concentrate on other areas

For those who think it may be protection software based/Securom issues and haven't already done so, try using a few different cracked/fixed launchers/.exes to test. Try a few different versions, even if they don't match your current patch.

*NB - Always back up the original files before copying/replacing the files.

There a plenty of versions out there. ie Vitality, Prophet, Unleashed etc Google them.

All I can say is that I have no codec packs installed.

All DLC is installed into the correct location.

I do not need to set affinity/disable cores.

I do not use Daemon Tools.

I have the latest GFWL installed, you must create an offline profile for these fixed files to work.

I have installed each US patch incrementally up to 1.7 and for convenience only, I use a fixed launcher and .exe

I've had zero issues with the game and this is with two completely specced machines.

If people are still experiencing issues after trying several different fixed .exe's etc, then concentrate on looking elsewhere for your particular issue. ie Sound drivers, broken video driver installations , A/V conflicts etc.

As other have mentioned, there are a multitude of possible methods to test. Read the the entire thread for others that may pertain to your particular problem.

First off I have windows 7 32bit home premium, the launcher and launcher menus work just fine, i click play main menu comes up and all sub menus work just fine, sound is good also. But when i click yes to start a new game it loads for anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds and then stops working. the stop working window thin that pops up try to come up with a cause but ever returns anything, i have let it sit for 15 minutes and nothing. I currently have Battlefield 2 complete collection and left 4 dead and they both work just fine on first try. i have looked through over half of this thread to no improvement at all.

Please help i really want to play Fallout 3.

I would suggest you look over this thread again, then look at your system specs.

Also when you say...

i have looked through over half of this thread to no improvement at all.

What exactly does that mean???

Have you tried updating your drivers?
Have you tried updating DirectX?
Have you looked into the save folder solution presented here?

We don't know what you did unless you specifically tell us!

Please look over my "How To Ask For Help" guide.

Help us help you!

Thanks.

To post such a message you have not read this thread at all, so, maybe, your solution has already bean stated. Second, with all the information you provide to eventually get help I must say it could be your coffee machine that's causing you trouble.

First thing first, read the entire thread and if you still need advise please post some specs about your hardware/software beyond I'm running Vista.

Can't load new meshes/textures.

First, please forgive me if I've put this in the wrong place. I'm new to forums like this.
My problem : I have finally managed to install FO3, and get it to run, on my Windows 7. But now the "Meshes, sound, textures etc." folders show up as .bsa files instead of the ususal folders, that I could just put things into. I can run the game, but without a lot of the good mods from "Fallout Nexus" The .esp mods work fine though. The game is patched to 1.7
I'm running Win 7 Home P. 64 bit. On a Quad core intel. 4 Giga ram and a GT8800 graphics card. I had the game running with all mods on a Win Vista Ultim. 64 bit. Frequent crashes, but that seems to be normal with FO3!
