I am looking for a laptop whose built in monitor has at least a 50000:1 contrast ratio. So many laptops I have seen look terrible in comparison to my LG 23" 1080P Monitor. (not a TV, just a monitor) Does such a laptop exist? Thanks.

I don't know if such a laptop exists, but I do know that contrast ratios are very deceptive, because the method used by manufacturers to determine this are not in any way standardized. Generally, such large contrast ratios are dynamic, not the native contrast ratio. I remember reading an article recently about a desktop monitor that was considered the best in these terms, and it only had a 3000:1 ratio, but in the native contrast standard.

EDIT: I didn't fully read it through, but perhaps the article linked below will illustrate what I have said:

I don't know if such a laptop exists,

If you ever get to see an LG monitor, you will see the difference. I have a laptop that when I move to the side, one way or the other, the image on the monitor becomes faded and blurry. Not so with an LG Monitor that has 50000:1 ratio.

Since I haven't seen a monitor that comes with a laptop even list their contrast ratio, I had a bad feeling about finding one that would do what I want it to do, at least for now. I think my next step is to contact Asus, Toshiba, and LG to see if they know of any laptops that are available now or will be in the near future that will meet my standards and need.

thanks for your response.

ROFLOL. I don't think that will be possible on a Jet, even in first class. :)

MosheMartian,

What you are speaking of regarding the faded or blurry display is the viewing angles, which are separate and distinct specifications from contrast ratio. My Acer X233H has 40000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, but that is not the reason that I can see it clearly at sharp angles, it is because it has a 160/160 horizontal and vertical viewing angles. I don't know if this specification is given on laptops or not, but it is what I would be looking for.
