Can't Find Accessories

Another method: Start > right click on All Programs > Open all users > open the Programs folder and see whether you can find the Accessories in there ( normally 1st or 2nd in line). This should be a complete set.

Have to agree with you on this. The above mentioned by jacee only shows a few list of programs. The original location of the folder is by going through C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/StartMenu/Programs/Accessories.

Well I think it is as was suggested that his profile is corupted, and he needs to make another one.
I was just trying the Restore first just in case that fixed it, but he Knows best.

I think the best way to solve this is by doing a system restore since TS is not able to find the "Accessories" folder. But TS said that the system restore method will lose the programs installed in the PC. So i assume the system restore that he/she has now is backdated to where most of the programs are not installed. That's why TS is not taking any risks on doing a system restore.

But, when we update windows. A system restore point is created by default right? Don't tell me that TS doesn't update his/her windows? :huh:

It's advisable to create a system restore point every now and then. And keep the installation files of programs on another partition or external hdd. Just in case something goes wrong.

Under the view tab, check "Show hidden files, folders and drives" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now navigate your explorer to C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/StartMenu/Programs/Accessories. Is the folder there?

Thanks! It was there, but somehow does not show up in Startup when I go to msconfig, Startup. So, what I did once I found it was to create a shortcut to the desktop. It does contain all the accessories features, not the very limited version I was able to find elswhere. So, it is still not in startup, but is very handy on the desktop. Thanks to you and the others for the suggestions!

sorry to drag up an old thread however we are seeing this issue.

We have a Users OU which has a mixture of XP Users and a few Windows 7 Pilot users. Currently we dont wish to seperate users due to our Business System being linked to the Users OU only.

We have numberous lockdowns applied to the users OU, including such things like hiding the control panel, inability to see context mensu or unable to use run command. For whatever reason one of these many policies is blocking the Accessories Menu in Windows 7.

If the User Account is moved into another OU then the Accessories Menu appears at login. NTFS permissions appear ok.

Hoping there is a single policy that is blocking the accessories from showing

problem resolved

I had the same problem and found the solution that worked for me...

go check to see if your AppData folder is hidden
with a red exclamation mark ! ... it should be

now open it to see your other folders Local, Roaming, System...etc
if these are marked as hidden w/red !

then this is the problem

right click on the AppData folder /properties /General tab
you'll see a "Hidden" box "UN"check it then Apply
then check "Apply changes to this folder sub folders and files"

this will take a few minutes

when finished start again... right click on the AppData folder /properties /General tab ...etc

but this time check "Hidden" and "Apply changes to this folder only" ...
this will take just a second

this worked for me...

And what about this - there is everything:
C:\ProgramData (that is hidden folder) \Microsoft\Windows\Startup menu\Programs\Accessories
