Hi! Im new here and i need big HELP.

Last year me and my sister bought this Acer Aspire 4730z model.

The technician told me that to install Xp you need to set BIOS Sata Mode to IDE. Because AHCI is for vista.

Now i wanna install it for Windows 7 ultimate 32bit.

The notebook now runs XP system and in BIOS Sata Mode = IDE

Would i change it to AHCI in BIOS for windows 7?

What is really the difference between IDE and AHCI in bios?

What is the best way to remove XP and install Windows 7?

This one?

How to Clean Install Windows 7 over Windows XP - For Dummies

or

Will it work if i run the xp installation cd in booting then delete the system xp their?.

Restart computer again then insert windows 7 disc in booting and Install Fresh Windows 7?

Will this also work?

AHCI is advanced host controller interface for running sata mode ,when you insert the win7 dvd when it reaches the where do you want to install stage you will be given the opputunity to reformat the disk, a clean install is always advisable :)

Ok im listening.

But my notebook now has XP installed and the BIOS setting is IDE.

What should i do?

I wanna delete the system XP.

I find hard to explain my problem.

Here it is?...

Should i change now to AHCI then insert the windows 7 disc?

You said "when it reaches where do you want to install stage you will be given the opputunity to reformat the disk".

But my XP is in IDE? changing to AHCI in BIOS will detect my existing XP inserting Windows 7 disc? then Delete XP? then install Windows 7?

i would suggest leaving the bios setting as is , insert the win7 dvd and boot from it, the hdd will be detected and will show you have another os istalled you will be asked if you want to install to that partition ,at the bottom of that screen you will see drive options available choose format, that will delete the xp partition and install win7 in its place hope that helps :)

Bit confuse?

Sorry im not debating just need clarification.:D

You said earlier "go for AHCI if you have sata hdd's".

Now

You said "i would suggest leaving the bios setting as is".

So the settings in BIOS Sata Mode will be IDE? this setting is im running now in XP.

Final BIOS Sata Mode = IDE in Windows 7?

if your laptop was supplied with xp installed, the chances are you have an IDE hdd so leaving the bios as is will do no harm, can you tell us the model of your laptop then we can tell you the correct bios setting :)

Im the one who choose to install xp. The store we bought this told us..

If you want to run this in XP you need to change the in BIOS Sata Mode = IDE

He said using BIOS Sata mode AHCI will not work on XP.

AHCI will only work for Vista.

This model was recommended to use Vista
