BSOD at random times

Hello, I have been having random BSODs and sometimes just plain freezing since I built my computer around November 2009. Everything seemed normal for about a month recently until I got numerous BSODs yesterday and today. This pattern happens every couple months. I have not installed any new hardware and maybe only 2 or 3 new programs. I really cannot figure this out. Can someone please help me?

I first thought it was related to my Antivirus software. I have went through many of them and the only one that caused no problems was Avira free. Everything was working fine for awhile after i installed Avira until now.

I have tested with memtest and windows memory diagnostic in the past and there were no problems. ( I did not test each stick of ram separately)

All of the hardware in my computer is new except a floppy drive, 2 hard drives, and my sound card.

Notes: Windows 7 told me that my 80 GB hd was failing. Windows displays my CPU at 2.67 GHz but it is supposed to be 2.66 GHz. When my computer would freeze before sometimes I would restart it and it would display 8GB instead of 12GB and the BIOS would switch boot drives.

Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 6.1.7.7600
Motherboard: Asus P6T LGA 1366 Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 / 2.66GHz

Welcome!

I see 2 possible causes. The first is remnants of AVG, specifically the files aswMonFlt.sys and avgmfx64.sys. See if you can manually delete those files. Show all hidden and OS files, and search for them in My Computer.

The other thing you can try is a memory test. I know you already did one, but try using a different program, namely, Memtest86. Burn the ISO to a CD using ImgBurn, and boot from it and run at least 5 passes.

Good luck!

Okay, got another BSOD while reading your reply earlier. I found and deleted 2 copies of avgmfx64.sys, but could not locate aswMonFlt.sys. I ran memtest 86+ for 5 passes with no errors. Any ideas?

Tell you what, if you get another BSOD, upload the dmp to your next post. I will analyze it, but if I get nowhere, I will seek the help of one of our resident experts.

Still looks like a memory problem.

How many passes did you run Memtest86? I would run it for at least 8, for the amount of RAM you have.

I ran it for about 9 passes with no errors. Let me ask you something. Could it possibly be the OS? I know this is frowned upon, but I had a friend install it for 20 bucks trying to save money.

Well, try opening an elevated command prompt and running sfc /scannow.

I installed those drivers for the ASUS utility and updated what I could yesterday. Everything seemed to be working fine after that. I had no BSODs all day, but today I got one after I shutdown and restarted my computer. I cannot figure out why.

Good Luck,

Just got another one. Those drivers I seen were a part these programs - daemon tools light, adobe file system checker, and magic iso. I uninstalled the programs except for adobe. I cannot figure out any way to update those drivers because that was the latest version I installed. Here is the new minidump as well.

Okay, I uninstalled that program and deleted those left over files. I noticed that program causing little glitches. Let me see how that goes and I will post back. Thank you for your help.
