5 Things I want in Windows 7 RTM

Actually, Linux is the fastest I believe. Though OSX comes next mainly because of its kernal style.

Chrome is only secure now because not as many hackers have had time with it, and a lot less people use it than IE.

As for speed, I don't test, and my ISP and rig are fast enough that I would not notice the difference. I like FF, so I will stick with it.

~Lordbob

I was referring to browsers, ie. Safari, not that OSX is the fastest OS. Though OSX likely is faster than most linux derivatives. OSX is derived from BsD and BsD is the true fastest OS. (I compile code on linux and BsD daily, BsD hands down wins in that category, maybe I'm weird, but I'm a massive fan of GCC and refuse to code on Windows with a compiler like MSVC.)

As for Chrome only being secure due to market share and how long it's been out, it's a possibility, but honestly I doubt it. Most of google's software is made very well. They have some "very" talented programmers that work for them.

Chrome does use more RAM initially than FF due to each tab being its own process (which makes it far more stable than firefox). Firefox though has memory leaks and if you try to run it for days on end without restarting it it will use insane amounts of memory, whereas Chrome won't. Also you tested Safari 3.2.2, it was Safari 4 that I was referring to when I stated it was currently the fastest browser available.

I don't buy this one bit. Firefox 3.1 is very very fast. So much stuff does not work in Chrome there is no way you can properly claim it puts Firefox at the bottom of the pile. And nothing made by Apple ever should be claimed as "good" or anything other than "worthless" and "a waste of time".

Yup, plus the suggestion shouldn't have ever been made as Windows 7 is SUPPOSED to do it on its own.

I never claimed apple was any good, infact I think apple is absolutely crap. I would never consider installing anything of their software due to the fact you have to install countless other things. But speed wise I hear its up there with chrome. And I have yet to come across something in chrome 2 that does not work.

W7 can? Let us know how then.

Also, FF is much faster than IE8 (it has NOT been sped up. Its slower if anything). Chrome is quick, but just lacks a little in my opinion. I have not used Safari on a PC, so I can not comment on that.

Windows 7 can mount disk images, just not the ones you had in mind.

Ever heard of Virtual PC? The VHD (Virtual Hard Disks) that it uses can be mounted directly within Windows 7 so that files on them can be accessed without neding to boot into a virtual OS on Virtual PC.

Although I must admit that I have never tried this, despite being a Virtual PC user...

The same as i7 and ddr3 and sata etc etc. Those things only cut fractions of a second but people spend thousands in their quest for those fractions.

1. Make the Taskbar more like the dock in OS X. Zooming in and out during mouseovers, as well as slightly reducing the size of the taskbar would be great.

2. Make the light blue bar on the left side of menus semi-transparent.

3. Make the log-on screen's background a dimmed version of the wallpaper of the highlighted user.

4. Make the right-click drop-down menus semi transparent.

You can reduce the size of taskbar anyway if you right it and select properties, there you will notice three options and one is to use small icons,k check that and away you go.

1: First, you know how you can switch tabs in IE with the new taskbar? Whether, the creators or Microsoft does it, I want it to be able to do that with other browsers such as Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, and so forth
I like that it doesn't do that for Chrome. I like to be able to click on the taskbar icon to minimize/restore the window.

I actually hate that I can't do that for things like Windows Messenger...even when I only have one window open in it.
