Restart Time

How to See What Your Windows Restart Time is

   Information
This will show you how to see how long in seconds it takes your Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10 PC to restart back to the desktop.

You can also view the startup logs in Event Viewer (C:\Windows\system32\eventvwr.msc) under Applications and Services Logs, Microsoft, Windows, Diagnostics-Performance, and Operational. The logs will be in the middle to show you what ran at startup, how long it took, and more.
   Note
Credit completely belongs to sidney1st for writing this VBS script.
   Tip
For fun, post your restart time at this link.

Here's How:1. Click on the download button below to download the Restart-Time.bat or Restart-Time.vbs file, and save it to your desktop.
Restart-Time.bat

Download

OR

Restart-Time.vbs

Download

2. Right click on the downloaded Restart-Time.bat or Restart-Time.vbs file, click on Properties, click on the General tab, click on the Unblock button to unblock the Restart-Time.vbs file. (see screenshots below)

NOTE: If you do not have a Unblock button, then it is already unblocked. Continue to step 3.Unblock.jpg
Protect1.jpg Protect2.jpg

3. Run the Restart-Time.bat or Restart-Time.vbs file.

4. Click on OK to restart the computer. (see screenshot below)
WARNING: Close and save all windows first. This will immediately restart your computer.
1100d1227815274-restart-time-step1.jpg

5. When the computer finishes restarting, you will see your Windows restart time. Click on OK when done. (see screenshot below)

6. You can now delete the downloaded Restart-Time.bat or Restart-Time.vbs file if you like, or save it somewhere to use again later.

That's it,
Shawn

After the reboot, I dont' get the popup showing my restart time.

I get my login page, showing my login (as admin) and my other login (for my PostgreSQL)

Ah, fixed it. While I was making the tweaks it started working... just dunno which one it was :o.

53 seconds so far... not done tweaking though ;)

Edit: had to disable the logon screens, so it goes directly to my desktop upon bootup...

Down to 43 seconds, but was hoping for under 15 :(

I've seen your vid i must say im impressed and jealous:o bit but if you go to start and type in 'msconfig' and run it go to second tab and click 'no gui boot' and change 30 seconds to 3.
Also go to advanced or something like that and select all cores to speed it up its just a minor windows mistake.That will speed it up even more.;)

If that's with normal mechanical drives (not SSD), a non-RAID setup, or standard speed CPU (not overclocked); then yeah, that's a pretty awesome score... :D

second is not bad but first one ive done everything possible to slow it down and i guess thats a record:D:cool:

It's simple, really. Enter BIOS after restart. Go to bathroom. Have Lunch. Have snack. Watch TV. Stretch. Take a bath. Go out walk. Go back in. Exit BIOS. Voila, it'll be an awesome restart time ;)

I'm not sure why you would get a result like that. Maybe the OC'd CPU may have something to do with it??

Is there a way to make one of these just for boot up time?

Try this:

Restart-and-Boot-Time.vbs
Code:
On Error Resume Next
MsgA = "Please close all running applications and click on OK."
KeyA = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RestartTime\"
KeyB = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\RestartTime"
AppName = "Restart-and-Boot-Time"
strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject ("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colOperatingSystems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Win32_OperatingSystem")
Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
PathFile = """" & WScript.ScriptFullName & """"
Result = WshShell.RegRead(KeyA & "Times")
If Result = "" then
   MsgResult = Msgbox (MsgA, vbOKCancel, AppName)
   If MsgResult = vbcancel then WScript.Quit
   WshShell.RegWrite KeyA & "Times", left(Time,8), "REG_SZ"
   WshShell.RegWrite KeyB, PathFile, "REG_SZ"
   WshShell.Run "cmd /c Shutdown -r -t 00", false, 0
else
   For Each objOS in colOperatingSystems
      dtmBootup = objOS.LastBootUpTime
      dtmLastBootupTime = CDate(Mid(dtmBootup, 5, 2) & "/" & Mid(dtmBootup, 7, 2) & "/" & Left(dtmBootup, 4) & " " & Mid (dtmBootup, 9, 2) & ":" & Mid(dtmBootup, 11, 2) & ":" & Mid(dtmBootup, 13, 2))
      BootTime = DateDiff("s",dtmLastBootupTime,now)
   Next
   WshShell.RegDelete KeyA & "Times"
   WshShell.RegDelete KeyA
   WshShell.RegDelete KeyB
   TimeDiff = DateDiff("s",Result,left(Time,8))
