How to make a Bootable DVD from Windows 7 downloaded files?

Hi,

I've just downloaded Microsoft Windows 7 Build 7057 Ultimate x86 with a size of 2.52 GBs. Since I use a fairly slow internet connection it took me AGES to complete.

Now that I want to burn it on a DVD so I can use it as a bootable disc, I see that there is no single image file like ISO, CCD, IMG, etc. for burning. Unfortunately I face a bunch of files and folders. Here's a shot:

2q1h0s0.jpg

I'd like to know how I am able to make a bootable DVD outta these files so I can easily clean install a new Windows 7.

Somebody told me I have to download ANOTHER TWO GIGABYTES as a 3rd party program in order to do that!!!! :cry:Since my internet connection is badly slow I didn't even listen to what he said!!!

Is there a way I can get rid of this problem? I am unbelievably eager to experience the ALL-NEW Windows 7. Please assist me to do that.

I appreciate your help.

Regards,
PowerVU

Hello PowerVU and welcome to SevenForums.

You can find applications that make bootable CDs out of files, but it's too much trouble.

I have 2, more promising, options for you:

1. You can install Windows 7 from within another operating system, e.g. XP or Vista. Just run the setup.exe and follow on-screen installation guide.

or

2. You can create a bootable USB stick with the files you got there. Check out this post : http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...table-so-i-can-load-w7-netbook.html#post13746

Hope it helps.

Hi,

Thanks for your hospitality and help Sir, But the problem is that the biggest USB Stick I have, just has 512MBs free capacity. I am also unable to add Windows 7 to my current operating system since I want to install it on a new computer with no OS installed. As as result the only way I can use these files is to make a bootable DVD out of them.

Many years ago I remember that there was a special file on Windows 2000 with booting capability which I could give it to AHEAD NERO and choose BOOT CD among Types of Burning and that file made all the things I wanted.

I think perhaps there exist such a file among Windows 7. An Image file with an unknown suffix. Am I right?

Thanks.

I like Vlite also and it can be done using UltraISO. True, you need both versions of Vlite because one is lacking the WAIK file, you just have to install them one on top of the other. I can't figure out why there is always nonbootable versions of Windows 7 floating around. When I d/l 7048 it was like that also.

Hi chev65,

Here is the McaFee report on that link.

MCAFEE2009-03-30_183637.jpg

It is about the link, not the UltraIso program. Is it free?

Also, if you are fortunate enough to have vlite 1.1.6, it can be used on it's own to create bootable iso - no need to install 1.2 over the top.

Hope it helps.

Yes but the 1.1.6 is an older version. I have no problems with that site and yes it's free, it's just a trial version but works for me.

Hi,

Looks like the free trial version is limited to 300mb file size - maybe that restriction is just for editing?

@PowerVu

I can give you an empty windows 7 bootable iso.

You just have to open this iso with UltraIso or PowerIso, copy your files in the iso, save and burn
This works, I've tested it!

The almost empty iso is just 4kb (rarred) or 544kb.
I just left the autorun.inf in the ISO:D

Hi woebetide,

You can post that boot.img here in a zip folder.

Click the Quick button at the bottom of this post, then Go Advanced. Click the paperclip , browse to the zip on your machine, click Upload, when done, close the upload window, click the paperclip again to add it to your post.

Kinda fun to use the Go Advanced function.

I think that Vlite should be able to create a bootable unattended for you. I have never used Vlite, but I have used Nlite, and if they work the same, then you should be able to use Vlite.

Pretty sure you can just burn a data dvd, and just make sure to set your bios to boot from dvd instead of the hardrive.

No, he cannot just burn to dvd and have it boot. There are certain files needed in order for a cd or dvd to boot.

Hi.
A friend gave me Windows 7 in a DVD.
The contents are the same as shown in the snapshot on the first page of this thread.
Although the 'Boot' folder is there the computer doesn't boot from the DVD.

I need to install Windows 7 on my laptop which is without any OS.

I don`t want to try the USB flash drive method as suggested by a member here.

How can i write the entire contents of the mentioned DVD on another one and make it boot my computer?

mjb,

I "roll my own" using OSCDIMG from the Windows Automated Installation Kit.

This may be a too technical approach but here's my notes made for myself on the matter.

CREATE AN ISO FILE

NOTE: First, remove C:\win7pe\ISO\boot\bootfix.bin to eliminate the “Press any key to boot from CD” prompt

Boot options:
These options are used to create bootable CD/DVD images

Only for single boot entry images
-b specify the file that will be written in the boot sector(s) of the disk. Example: -bc:\location\cdboot.bin
-p specify the value to use for the Platform ID in the El Torito catalog.
The default is 0x00 to represent the x86 platform.
-e This option means not to use floppy disk emulation in the El Torito
catalog.

Example:
oscdimg –lMyPE –n –o –h –m –bc:\win7pe\etfsboot.com c:\win7pe\ISO C:\win7pe\win7pe.iso

-l specifies the volume label.
-n ISO 9660 option to allow long file names
-o Encode duplicate files only once.
This uses a MD5 hashing algorithm to compare files.
-h include all hidden files and directories under the source path
-m ignore the maximum size limit of an image.

-bc:\win7pe\etfsboot.com full path for the boot sector file

C:\win7pe\ISO root location of source files to add to the ISO file
C:\win7pe\win7pe.iso full path for the ISO file
