I have installed build 7000 and it has been working pretty good for the last week.

Now my usb drives and sticks stopped working. OS will see the drives, but cannot access them. It shows drive as raw data, when I plug it in on XP or Vista the drive works fine. What could cause this??

I am also having problems running flash drives for "readyboost" in build 7057 x86. It works for a while but then says it's too slow to use for readtboost. It's a top of the line 2GB drive. It's fast enough. I don't know what would cause this. Just the "beta" probably.

Now I can see the usb device is healthy and ntfs on disk management, but when accessing the drive I get "Device is Not Ready" error. Is this just beta bug, or is there something that would correct this problem?

Try a low level format on the disk drive , and change them to FAT32 format.

All my 4 different flash drives work fine in Windows 7 7048 X64.

I cannot use Fat32 because many of my files are bigger than Fat32 allows. I need to use NTFS as file system, but I will try low level format.

Format your drive in FAT32 go in the devmgmt.msc type in RUN go to USB and uninstall all your USB devices reboot and leave them install again from the Driver.cab folder.

Hope this helps! ;)

I understand , but just to be sure , backup your data on your HDD and try the FAT32 option. If that works and you don`t get more errors at least you know where the problem is.

Or you can WinRAR the files into smaller pieces than FAT32 allows.

Good Luck

If hte devices are being read by Vista and XP just fine, there is obviously no need for a low level format. In addition, formatting them to FAT32 is removing a lot of security streams in there that make the drives a *lot* more vulnerable to drive-by malware infections.

I *highly* suggest you stick with NTFS.

As for the drives not working, I'd say something is not working correctly with your USB controller, or else the hub is being underpowered - this can happen via several methods, including:

  • PSU dying
  • USB 'shield' grounding out on the chassis (yes, I have seen and read about this elsewhere - it can easily happen)
  • USB cable going bad
  • Motherboard going bad
Etc.

mine is fat32 and is not working

I have one western digital my book 500 gig, and one Flash Voyager GT 2gig, they only show up as unknown disks, they do work fine in aany other OS though. I can get them to work by reinstall the USB on the system but they only work for a short while. But it is beta so guess it is on do list and it will work whne it will work :).
