W7 Taskbar 'Show Windows Side by Side' Prob.

I run a HP [VISTA-64] computer with HP Upgrade to WIN7 DVD. I have run the DVD a few times, and *basically* W7 is fine. There is ONE issue though. When I have a few family JPGs open and go to the T-B, click on 'Show Windows Side by Side', it does not work right, as it did in V-64. The last time I reformatted, then upgraded to W7, Side by Side worked *once*, then...never again. Almost seems like something else I run 'kills' the ability to view a few JPGs [comparing]. My Wife will not use this W7 computer until I get this squared away. I cannot find a thing about the problem, and nothing on the HP Tech URL either...

Any Help ??

Bill

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Alas, an Upgrade DVD is 'set' to ONLY *upgrade* from V-64; no 'clean install' possible. In fact it is ONLY for this particular machine!

Since the only way to 'try again' is to reformat in V-64, THEN run the Upgrade, it is not a task to be taken lightly, even for a guy with far more time than money, but I'd happily give 'er another go, if something 'new' was suggested.........

Is that something HP has done to the disk? Did you see Brinks suggestions above?

Thanks, Guys. Yes, I see/saw the SCANNOW posting. I'll try that tomorrow. In fact, now that my memory has been jogged, the time S by S did work for My Bride...THEN didn't, I tried 'going back' with the Restore Program, to a time when it did work. No dice.

As for HP, I built a couple '98 machines 'back-when', then gave up and just bought HP [thru COSTCO]. I have had [and passed on] several, all good. I tend to buy the Max RAM and Fastest CPU and the rest is frosting on the cake. In Sept 09 I passed my Quad Core V-32 computer to 'Her', and ordered this i7-950 V-64, TO GET IT IN THE TIME FRAME WHERE THE NATIVE O.S. IS VISTA [which I like very much] AND STILL HAVE THE FREE UPGRADE TO W7, to learn from, mess with, etc. I've come to understand that Store Bought upgrades have to have license agreements abided by, and numbers keyed in...etc... some even cleared with Redmond. In this case, experience has taught me that since the upgrade is for this computer only, I can run it as often as I like. I *have* upgraded, reformatted, tried it again six (6) times now. My 'long term' plan was go get acquainted, find W7 was 'paradise', buy the upgrade for the Quad Core she is now using, but she does a lot with family and friend JPGs, and part of that is the ability to compare several at a time.

So......... here we are........

Yup....sure did. I can't quote the screen, but it was to the effect that I had to have V-64 installed.

Sorry to waste your time mate, I was just curious; it must be the way HP has put the disk together.

No waste of MY time! I *look* for things to do. [Comes with being a 1937 model....although I hate to admit it]

Anything anybody spots, that will let 'She who must be obeyed' use Win-7.... will help...

Since the thing ran right [at least] once, JUST after installing the Upgrade.... before going TU, I have wondered if some program I have installed could have conflicted with the S by S sub-routine. I don't have anything unusual, other than K-Lite Codec Pack, True-Crypt, SKYPE, and my Logitech Cordless Mouse.

Thank you for your time and patience. I'll snoop back here and see if anything new crawled out from under a rock.

'Best... to all

Bill
