Friends,

As you all know, I use the Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Can you please suggest an Internet Security Suite ( Other than Mcafee, I am frustrated with it ), which has the following qualities :

¤ A True x64 Version.

¤ Upgrades ( not update ) automatically, say from version 10 to 11, and does not require complete uninstallation and reinstallation.

¤ Though I have 6GB of DDR3 RAM, I still want a light version.

¤ And a legitimate place from where I can buy it online.

¤ Also, if you use the product, notify its pros and cons.

Thanks in Advance ;D

Eset, but ....

You want ESET Smart Security 64-bit then.

But swarfega, as much as I know Eset Smart Security, does not upgrade automatically. You need to uninstall, and then install the new version and provide the username & password received during the purchase. Correct me if I am wrong.

well If I were you I would just stick with whatever you find that you like. I mean, my ESET Smart Security expired yesterday and when that happened I chose not to renew it and rather to check out free alternatives such as Microsoft Security Essentials, also I'm using the built in Windows Firewall and find it to be quite adequate for my needs, it's fast, low on system resources and who better knows their own operating system then the creators themselves ? ie : MS that is.

I suggest that you give MSE a try.

It won't cost you anything except a bit of your time.

Good Luck

PS

You don't have to pay for Anti-Malware

Antiphishing, antirootkit, email scanner.... I can go on and on.

coming from an Internet suite user i can understand the desire in you for a plethora of features....but as an no nonsense..unobtrusive av whose job is to protect your pc without being overtly nosy...mse does its job...

.....a good read about mse and its potential is here too....http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/mse.asp

It's comprised of a user mode service and a kernel mode driver, so it can handle malware no matter where it lives in the system. It's all backed up by a series of web services, including telemetry data through the SpyNet service, Microsoft Update, and a separate signature update service.

Thanks to the 450 million people who automatically download security updates every month from Microsoft Update, the software giant has a unique and gigantic feedback loop from which they can quickly identify new attacks and react aggressively. On the client itself, the MSE real time protection mechanism operates at the kernel level to examine the behavior of unknown binaries and then sandbox potential malware before it can do any harm. And thanks to a new Dynamic Signature Service, MSE can immediately query online to see if there is anything that matches what its seeing on the PC. Because of its kernel mode hooks, MSE can also detect kernel mode rootkits and, in many cases, even clean them out after they've rooted their way into the system.

as for commercial internet security suites.....i already suggested KIS

Yup, you are correct game point, The new Avast Internet Security 5 does have an x64 version. But just give me some more suggestions. I asked the AVG Reps, about their x64 version 14 hours ago, but no answer till now.

Thathagat, they support x64 versions of Win 7, the don't actually have and x64 version. Norton Reps Said me their product will be ready by mid 2010. Mind that any x86 application running in x64 environment gets a 2% lag in performance due to passing through a thin layer on execution. And imagine an security suite that runs all the time 8-0
So, Eset and Avast, both have x64 versions of their suites, I want to know if there are other vendors who have.
Also, when talking of x64, do NOT forget kernel patch protection, which could be easily exploited by hackers, and Norton released a whitepaper on it.

MSE is native x64. You want to upgrade get the newest executable from Microsoft and run it. It doesn't suck up resources and it works perfectly. Beef it up with Malwarebytes Anti Malware and jack UAC up to the highest level.
