i have had avast and mse for quite a while, i use malwarebytes as on demand scanning but decided to go for full version for its extra protection, but when i upgraded about 10 mins later my laptop started lagging and freezing, so i had to uninstall it, which is a shame because a had just paid for it... should i reinstall it and get rid of another program?

Are you running avast and mse at the same time? Current advice around the forum is to use only one AV program at a time and run malwarebytes once in awhile to check if something got in. Most AV programs don't play nice with other.

well technically yes you can run mse and avast together....avast! blog Greetings from Redmond

During that time, we tested avast with over 15 other low-level applications and fixed a few compatibility issues. For example, we made sure avast! works flawlessly with the upcoming Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)

but should one....not really(my subjectivity:p or sagacity;))
avast has had issues with mbam pro and that might be the cause of your issues.

best combo....would be
mse+mbam pro

Yeah, I did still notice some lags with Avast and MBAM Pro running, even though Avast seems to say the issues have been resolved from what I hear.

So in your case, MSE and MBAM Pro (as suggested above) would be the best solution.

I'm running Kaspersky and MBAM Pro and they run great together.

SOLUTION: Check your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security application to see if you can add exclusions for specific applications/files to ignore. You may need to contact their technical support or check their support website for instructions. You will need to set your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security to ignore/exclude the following files:

  • [*]C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    [*]C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
    [*]C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
