How to maximize a window WITHOUT shifting it to up

When I double click into a window's frame it gets blown up to its maximum size and also attached to the upper screen border. While I want the first, I don't like the second effect.

Can one configure Win7 such, that double clicking a window's top border does ONLY maximize the window, but keeps it in-place and without shifting it to the upper screen border?

If you gave it a second of thought: there are many apps and hence windows that - even when maximized do NOT cover the entire screen, to name just one example: a remote desktop window where the other system's desktop is much smaller than my own's.

i would be supprised if one can do that.
maybe this might help i bit. "WinSplit Revolution", a free program, that allows you to reset the window according to your likings with either a keyboard shortrcut, or a small aero type of window on the screen with about 9 buttons on it, two options to install, as a program, or portable. with many options. came in very handy for me.

What do you mean by that? That there are no windows that - even when maximized - do NOT cover the entire screen?

An other easy to reproduce example is the Command line (aka. cli or command.exe). Open one, go to its Properties, define both, screen buffer size and window size, to be e.g. 80x24. Now maximize that window. It will NOT cover the entire screen (unless you have a *very small* screen). But when you double-click into the title bar it will jump to the top left corner of you screen. It's that jump that I want to get rid of! IMHO the window should maximize but remain at the position it was.

There are a very small subset of applications that behave like that. That is by design.
Regarding the "jumping" to the top left corner when maximized, that is also by design in Windows (and has been like that ever since you could maximize in Windows [Windows 2.0]).
