Is the channel of the currently connected wireless network reported anywhere by Windows? I know there are tools such as inSSIDer, but this is a remote diagnosis for a friend.

I don't think you can connect remotely to a computer and find what channel is in use. But, if you connect remotely, you should be able to use his browser to log into the router and check to see what channel is being used.

Sorry, when I said "remote" I meant he kept phoning me! Can't log into the router to find the channel, it belongs to his neighbour. He can connect to it though (!) and wants to find what channel it is on so he can move his to another one.

That's a very good Q, can't find the channel within Windows here myself. But I do know the third party wireless apps that come with usb adapters do inform u of the channel: Ozenda, Belkin and Netgear for example. Anyone else, without resorting to third-party software as the OP stated.
