Change 16:10 to 16:9

I have a 20 inch monitor and its 16:10 (1680x1050). I wanted to buy another monitor of those same specifications but I can't find many that are at a decent price they are all 16:9!

So can someone please, please tell me if it is possible to use a 1600x900 resolution on my monitor? So software like drivers or something.... Right now in resolution properties of Windows and also ATI Catalyst I can't select any 16:9 resolutions.

Unless you like black bars top and bottom, if you run that monitor at 1600x900 instead of 1680x1050 everything will be stretched. If you want it at that resolution because of a second monitor that isn't necessary either as long as it is set to extended instead of clone or mirrored mode.

Because the physical dimensions of the screens are different, with the 16:10 monitor being slightly narrower and taller. Both will still be 20" on the diagonal but the overall size is different. So running a native 1680x1050 at 1600x900 will be stretched whenrun full screen, the extra pixels have to come from somewhere.

Unless you plan on running the monitors in clone mode, I wouldn't worry about the difference in resolution as it won't matter in extended mode.

But seriously both your monitors ( coming off the same pc ) should be the same size. They don`t have to be, but they should be. I did some refreshes for Merrill Lynch and they had 2 19" fullscreens side by side. They were sweet.

I am running a 20 and 19", but both are 16:10 ratio. 1680x1050 and 1440x900.
