Speed issue or lack there of with wireless

Hi I'm currently having a problem with my win7 64 bit desktops wireless speed. It has recently decided to slow to a crawl I'm talking to the point where the speed is measured in bytes not kilobytes when accessing the net and downloading files. I know it's the computer not my network as other wifi gear still works at full speed.

The only change I have made is to switch antivirus from kaspersky to mcafee, I use a Asus wl-138g v2 wifi card( I know it's old but it's been very reliable until now). Any help would be apreciated, thanx in advance.

Sorry you are having issues dis0wned1!

Disable, or uninstall and burn (with a match) Mcafee.... I had the same issue on a clients lappy! Removed Mcafee and issue went away!

A couple of things

Is it still slow if you safe boot (F8) with networking?

Are you using homegroup for networking?

the only real way to test if it is the AV is to un-install just to test. AV apps have hooks into the OS kernal even when disabled.

I run into instances where Norton, Mcafee, and Kerperskys cause latency issues all the time.

I uninstalled mcafee but nothing seems to have changed also windows firewall is returning the following message
"windows firewall can't change some of your settings error code 0x8007042c"
when I try to start it from services.msc I get the following
"windows could not start the service on local computer. Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start"
I tracked the dependencies back but they are all running so I gave up at this point and thought I would ask. I don't want to reformat as I have slot of large apps installed I don't want to DL again. To stress how important this is I'm actualy using a mac to talk to you.

I've changed my mind I will reformat it fir the third time this year I just don't seem to have much luck with win 7 this will be my last atempt on windows 7 and if it disentangle work I'll go back to xp atleast it's reliable. Thanks for all your help you guys I'll good rep you all. Now is the fun part of moving everything to backup drives.

Damn McAfee... gets in there and totally hoses the Windows firewall.
Try a repair install 1st.... and dump McAfee! http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
