An open letter from an Apple developer to the madman who is Steve Jobs. I think this really portrays what the little guys are going through when they decide to make and submit their iPhone applications to the App Store. Very interesting read, take a look.

These new terms will shut down many current developers, and disallow many popular game engines and other “middlewares.” This is a letter to Steve Jobs protesting these new terms.

Other developers please post comments to show your support as well as tell your stories. Now is the time for us to band together, spread the word, and help Stop The Madness.

I think the best way to shut him up is to stop developing for the platform and go for the next big thing: Android, which is definitely going to take over the iPhone.

I love the way that Mac people always attack Microsoft for the way they do business. If you look at the way Apple has done business since Jobs came back in 1997, they have gotten really, really shady, as well as having the quality of their products go down.

Keep it up Steve and in 5 years you can complain about having to look up at Google as well as MS.

Apple did the same thing MS did with Windows 7. Required the developers to write their Apps to interface with the OS API. This it the best way to protect the OS Kernel and not dork up a system. I believe Firefox has also put in similar restrictions on their browser add-ons. If they don't like it, write their own OS.

It's not just the way the apps are written, it's also the way they randomly approve and deny apps, and also have the ability to delete them from people's devices remotely.

Please don't attack my operating system I can join in a discussion with the best of them, but this is just rumor and conjecture. I use Apple products and I don't attack Microsoft. I may not agree with some of their choices on a moral level but I think they're a great business. Apple might not be everyone's favorite but look at the stock since 1997.



Apple went from $23 to $242. That's a 1000% increase. Granted, MSFT is way above AAPL but Apple is catching up while micrsoft has stayed flat since 2000.

I like Apple's products, a lot actually, (aside from the iPad) but I don't like how power-hungry Steve Jobs has become just because the products his companies designed have become popular. It doesn't give him the right to shoot down developers left and right. As stated in that open letter, many apps that contradict their policies have been allowed and kept in the store while others were removed, simply because they're so popular. Why shouldn't developers be able to use Monotouch?

Oh, I agree. Even if some of the business practices are shady, they are definitely working for Apple so far. I'll give Steve Jobs credit...he's good at figuring out what people want before they know they want it. Wired wrote a pretty good article on in a couple of years ago.

This is a from a developer's perspective though. Of course one can see Apple's growth is enormous. Eventually, Android will take over. People will buy Apple products, but in the phone market, if there are no people to write ground-breaking apps anymore, people will move to the next best thing.

We'll see what happens, but from the course of events since Steve Jobs return, I'm guessing he might have a few tricks left up his sleeve before he lets Android take the reins.
