Are there other ways to remove icons from the taskbar?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully helping me out. :D

I have a Comodo Firewall icon on my taskbar and I don't like it one little bit.

I am aware that I can use Windows software to hide the icon, but that places a small line on the taskbar that when clicked, lists the programs being hidden. I don't like this either!

Is there some way to remove icons specifically without having to use "notifications area" option that is built into windows?

Perhaps I can find the icon in the registry?

p.s. Comodo's software doesn't offer the option.

Thank you very much for this article, although it isn't exactly what I am looking for. This hack makes the icon invisible, but it is still very much there. Hmmmm....I wonder if that's the best I can do.

I dislike this Comodo icon so much I am considering uninstalling the software and just using the Windows Firewall again.....

still, thank you for the help, whs.

Question? What's more important - The function of the software, or the icon?

Just curious.

There’s also this option….

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ons-hide-show-system-icons-notifications.html

- Right click Start (the Windows Orb),
- click Properties,
- Click the Taskbar tab, and under Notification area choose Customize…
- Find your icon and under Behaviors dropdown box choose Hide icon and notifications.

Note that the notifications will also be hidden as well :o

Good luck.

Just a usage note...
Icons can be dragged in and out of the hidden and visible portions of the Notification Area (systray).

Just this side of fast enough.
How about changing the icon into something more neutral. Go to the programs .exe > properties > shortcut tab > "Change Icon" button. There you can browse for a better icon. You have to find a .ico file - can even make your own.

in this case, the icon is more important. I decided to remove Comodo firewall and use Windows. I use Windows Firewall and Avira free and Malwarebytes

and I always check new software using VirusTotal - Free Online Virus and Malware Scan

thanks for the help dude

That is an interesting outcome. Reminds me the guy who traded his car in because he did not like the looks of the battery - LOL.

He probably had the hood removed for aesthetics and the battery wasn't matching the decor :D

A bit over the top but hey...
