How to "REMOVE" icons from tray?

Hi,

I want to remove (delete, not hide) some icons from the taskbar.

There are some programs that, annoyingly, keep a tray icon so you can have easy access. This is good for some programs, like steam, or origin, but really annoying for a driver that is supposed to run in silent mode.
(Yes logitech gaming software, i'm talking about you). Also, logitech gaming software doesn't have a setting to remove the tray

And, for some reason, safely remove hardware shows my HD as a removable device.

I want a program that permanently removes that.

Any way to that?

best i can think of is to drag the icon up from the systems tray and it will open the hidden icons window .
place it in there so you dont have to see it.

Hum if you mean the hidden icons on the right hand side of the taskbar with mine I just right click the icon in the opened tray and "Exit" that just removes it for me.

Use msconfig and see if you have those icons starting up there.
Also right click on the icon on the taskbar and select unpin this program from task bar.

Right click on empty spot on taskbar and select Customize Notification icons.

Just cutomize the notifications area.

right click the taskbar, choose properties, customize the notification area, and just choose which icons you want to hide.

And you should be able to delete any icon from the takbar.

To remove "safely remove hardware" message on a HDD:
Click Start, right click Computer, click Manage, click Device Manager, click the little arrow next to Storage controllers, right click your HDD controller and choose Properties, click on the Policies tab, uncheck "Enable safely remove disk", click OK and restart the computer if needed.

Many programs when installed will give you options to create a desktop or taskbar icon ect. If you choose to check them they will create those and boot with the system. You can also check in Start Orb and then Start Up and see what is in there.


*** On my computer when you right click the taskbar and select customize/notification all the icons on my taskbar are not listed.
Those non listed icon you just right click and remove them with unpin. If for ever reason the unpin is not listed drag and drop them to desktop and then remove them.

Guys, i emphasized on remove and not hide.
I don't want to hide the icons, i want to remove them.

Also, exiting them or removing them from startup won't help because logitech gaming software stops working after its closed or not started up.

The device manager thing worked though.

I agree with Layback I am a little confused now tho where the icons are cos I just right click on the main taskbar and the tray icons and unpin the main bar icons to "exit" the tray icons.

Well at least it is that basic on my machines

if logitech driver installed an icon into the systems tray without the option to have a quick launch icon or not then there is little you can do.
otherwise reinstall the driver and see if it has that option.

Each program controls what icons it place on the tray, you can only control them by going to each program and setting its own option to remove it. Windows can't prevent this at all. At most, like everyone here showed, it can HIDE the icons but not REMOVE them, as it's the owner program responsibility.

Other than disable it though the program's option (if available) or close it (which you lose functionality), you have to either hide or live with it.

Well put Alejandro85 and correct. When removing the icon from the taskbar does not remove it from the program or system. It is still there you just don't have to look at it any more on the taskbar.

While i understand that each program controls their tray icon, it doesn't mean that i can't remove it just because it doesn't have the option to do so in the own software. If that was the case, most of windows 7 customizations would be gone.

Some years ago, i found exactly what i was looking for. It was a software that managed the tray icons, removing each one you wanted. I can't quite remember the name though.

Edit: @Laybackbear i don't mean the taskbar, i mean the tray. Near the computer's clock. Removing the icon from there by exitting the application actually stops its functionality, so clicking exit or removing it from startup is not an option.

Thank you for your reply. Would you like to remove (delete) the tray icon from the registry or just make it so you don't have to look at it on the tray that is on the taskbar. My understand at first was you just wanted to keep it off the taskbar tray so you don't have to look at it. Did you get the icon moved, turned off, deleted so it's no longer appearing on the tray on the taskbar? If it's gone how did you do it?

So what I suggested didn't work?? > right click on the icon and use exit or remove or whatever remove option is on any particular icon.
