Resize 1080p vids to 768p?

Is there a way I can resize my videos from 1080p to only 768p.

Reason being is that when watching 1080p vids, it consumes waay to many resources. But when watching 720p, its blurry. So i think that if i take a 1080p video and resize it to my resolution it will be clear without consuming a ton of resources.

Are you referring to streaming HD video? What file formats are we talking about here? Do you have any video editing software installed?

Im watching the movies through VLC and WMP. Formats are avi, m2ts, mkv, and mp4. And I have the Adobe Master Collection CS4 if that has any of the software in it.

Yep I believe you can do that in Premiere Pro... it should be a pretty basic operation. Not sure how though... anyone know for sure?

I tried exporting it as H.264, and changed the horizontal value to 1366, but when i try to change the vertical value to 768 it says its invalid or something.

Yeah, Wikipedia mentions 1366x768 displays don't do 720p very well :/ I have one too, but I can change the resolution to 1280x720, which is what 720p plays in natively. Does the video still look blurry if you play it while in 1280x720 mode?

It helps it a bit, but still looks blurry. I always wondered why it said it has native support for 720p content, when it still looks blurry.

If you screenshot the error and post it on a Premiere Pro forum like this one, this one, or this one, you may get some better help...

Here's my way round this problem. Download the very good and free video converter "Super" from here:
SUPER &copy
Make sure you don't download the advertised trial version of AVS converter. Look for the heading:
Current version SUPER © v2010.build.37 (Jan 2, 2010)
and scroll down the specification till you come to
the screenshot below and click download. With Super you can convert virtually any video file to a huge choice of video formats.
Thing to remember is you won't improve on the original and the more you compress the file the more "lossy" it will become.

Thanks for the suggestion, mitchell65! I'm wondering if SUPER can adjust for resolution too? It looks like mainly a format conversion tool, which isn't really the issue here. But hey, it's free - can't hurt to try it out Michael!

I use HandBrake . That alos makes the same thing easily , and nicely. As it uses the h264 codec, the output quality is also good there .

when you say blurry, what exactly do you mean, like it's out of focus, pixelated, etc....?
Maybe it's a Codec problem.
I watch 720P content on a couple of laptops, Lenovo with 1366x768 res as well as a Toshiba with a 1600x900 res and 720P looks sharp on both of them.
In fact I watch mostly 720P on my PC (1680x1050 and 1440x900) on either screen and it's very sharp.

Here is the opening to a movie, print screened on VLC, but still looks the same on WMP.

To me it just looks a bit blurry to me.



I guess a way to tell if its blurry for you, would be to set it as your background.

That looks fine on my end. not blurry at all, just a tad soft.

As Zepher says just a bit soft but then it is a 1368 x 768 px image stretched to 1680x 1080 px on my screen so it's what I would expect. Being a still image we are looking at it in square pixel rendering whereas in a standard DVD movie format you would be looking at non-square pixel rendering.

I just viewed it on 3 machines and it looks fine. Are you seeing dithering artifacts?

If you are setting it as your backdrop in windows, then maybe windows is recompressing it and making it look worse.

Ok so I redownloaded the image and reapplied it as the background, and now it looks fine.

I just realized if Michael uploaded a screenshot of a blurry paused video, there's no way it could look unblurry to us! Unless there is something wrong with his monitor, or our perceptions of blurriness are all unique... which is probably true...

My dad has a BenQ monitor that has a very strange artifacting issue, dark areas of a video have blocky texture pattern and it is not an issue with codecs, driver, or the video card, it's the monitor itself.
Maybe the OP has an issue with his screen, video driver, or codec.
