Help no idea what's wrong with my PC... :(

Personal Choice: OCZ ModXStream Pro Power Supply - 600-Watt, Modular, Dual +12V Rails, SATA, 80Plus at TigerDirect.com

Corsair TX650W 650-Watt Power Supply - ATX, 120mm Fan, SLI-Ready, SATA-Ready, 80Plus at TigerDirect.com

OCZ and Corsair are some of the best. I also like these because they are modular.

Edit: Oops...Corsair isnt modular sorry for bad info....

They are both 600+ which will give you plenty of overhead as PSU's degrade over time. The first one cost the same as the one you were looking at.

The PSU is the life-blood of the machine and should be a purchase in which you try to get the best PSU you can for your budget.

You should also take the PSU apart if you say it smelled like something burning. The fans on PSU's can get clogged with dust and dirt from the air that is going through it. So its probably part of the problem too. Make sure you ground yourself by touching the bare metal on the case when you do anything inside the case and while you are cleaning the PSU. A screwdriver should be all you need. Its not difficult, but If you are unfamiliar, then get a pro to open it up and clean it.

Also, a failing HD can stop a system from turning on even if its not the primary HD. If you ever see problems with booting, unplug this failing drive as a first step to troubleshooting. Just a heads up...

Why they are so cheap? in my country i need 50$+ to buy 450 watt :(

Any way thank you for your posts very good help :)

Also from what i understand my psu is now something around 250-300 watt not 400 and it will keep on degrading hm kinda scary...

And one last thing can someone explain this table what's what?

I can see there are 3 bad values but if anyone of them could affect gfx?

What's this +12v responsible for?

The 3.3- and 5-volts are typically used by digital circuits, while the 12-volt is used to run motors in disk drives and fans. The main specification of a power supply is in watts. A watt is the product of the voltage in volts and the current in amperes or amps. If you have been around PCs for many years, you probably remember that the original PCs had large red toggle switches that had a good bit of heft to them. When you turned the PC on or off, you knew you were doing it. These switches actually controlled the flow of 120 volt power to the power supply.

Yes PSU's do that....

I saw you were looking at another 450w and I had to post. really you want about 100-150w of overhead. a PSU can degrade up to 20% over 2-3 years.

What country are you in? is there a site that you were looking at that you can find and post a similar PSU to the ones I listed. It is important to get a good PSU otherwise you will run into the same problem.

I am not as familiar with the specs, Edit: thanks mpcrsc562 for posting that link very good info.

really you want about 100-150w of overhead. a PSU can degrade up to 20% over 2-3 years.

And, since you have already stated that you overclock your pc, then it is a must you have that headroom--600W wouldn't be out of the question for you.

@Mpscsc562 usefull stuff thanks still i got to ask is this accurate that 10W is consumed per 128M and i got 4gb...

@Thorsen well i live in Poland prices and wages aren't exactly fair that's why im trying to minimize my money spending...

Any way i was looking at this psu Chieftec (GPS-450AA-101A) 450W bulk - Notebooki, komputery, laptopy, monitory, karty graficzne - Komputronik internetowy sklep komputerowy

Its 450watt i don't plan on upgrading any thing im quite happy with my current rig except failing psu :)

Any way my full spec:

pentium dual core e2180 when i get new psu i will OC it again too 3.0Ghz with not changing voltage still 1.25v
4x1gb ddr2 800Mhz OC to 900MHz
Radeon 3870 512mb don't need OC runs everything on max in 1280x800 my favorite resolution for games :)
All other stuff like sound card etc is on motherboard also there are 2 sata drivers and one old 7200 rpm 60gb junk that's failing and one cd/dvd combo drive and that's it.

So will this set up work fine on 450 watt chieftec as you see price for 450watt in poland is bloody 66$...and yes there are other shops cheaper but well there's always a risk they will stop to exist and preaty much no warranty :)

i would not go with just 450w...it might work for the time being, but you will be running at 100% full load and it will degrade faster and you will probably run into the same problem....

There might be a site online that will ship to Poland.

Edit: I would suggest cleaning your current PSU first as well. this might be a temporary fix until you can get money together.

Hm calculator gived me something around 378w when OC with no OC 359w so basicly it was running from begining on no surplus supply of power...

Right now i unpluged 1 harddrive and 1 cd/dvd combo and calculator shows 308w :) maybe i should unplug my secound hard drive?:)

Your problem probably developed due to overclocking. You were running your system with a PSU that was running 100% full capacity at all times. I would say 500w should be stable for you, but I would not recommend OC'ing with less than 100w over-head...

Edited my previous post with PSU, please re-check thanks. I hope this all gets you a good PSU and a stable system.

Yes it would be i know funny... :(

Check the specs and make sure it is compatible with your current setup. you should look at what case you have. Where your PSU is and were the vent is facing. Also post your motherboard specs so we know what pins it uses.

Edit: My motherboard is GA-EP35-DS3R i always liked gigabyte :)

About the case its a bloody night mare its from tracer too...i will try to serch it on web atm i don't know...

Ok i can't find my case on web but it looks exactly like this one http://www.proline.pl/pic/tracer-791-vivo-400_0.jpg

btw its normal for new cases that you can basicly scrap them into pieces???

GA-EP35-DS3R (rev. 2.1) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification

So this is your mobo and it is ATX which is the standard board size. The PSU if it is ATX should fit where the current one is. that is a big case....

It looks like you need a PSU with the following specs:

24-pin ATX main power connector
4-pin ATX 12V power connector

these are standard so make sure whatever PSU you choose, it has these types of connectors.

There have been questions about this, but there isn't software that I know of....There is hardware you can buy to test the PSU: (but this still wont tell you the amount needed by hardware or the degredation)
