Driver needed for Canoscan Lide 30!

I can't get my canoscan Lide 30 to install on my new computer with windows 7 64, and canon are only saying buy a new scanner cause they don't have any drivers for it. if someone knows how to fix this, please help!

Hello seashellsurfer and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I refuse to buy anything from Canon because they refused to support their customer base when they decided we did not need Windows 7 drivers. There aren't any Vista drivers for your model either and XP drivers will not install even in compatibility mode. Scanners are one of the last devices to receive attention for Windows 7 drivers, unless one was willing to pay big bucks for a new model.

I have an old XP computer on my home network just so I can use my Canon printers and my scanner.

Another possibility would be to install the free VirtualBox. It will allow you to install a copy of XP inside your Windows 7 computer and may give you back the use of your Canon scanner.

Otherwise, you can use this Windows 7 Compatibility web site to find an affordable replacement scanner with Windows 7 support?

You could try Vuescan from Hamrick if you can't find a driver for the scanner, though the cost of the software/driver will be $40 for the basic, $80 for the pro. There is a trial version to try for 30 days as well.

I registered just for this - for those people who have windows 7 and canoscan lide 30.. IT DOES WORK! Or at least on my computer it's working... I'm not even completely sure how. I first installed the canoscan lide 30 vista driver... Then Windows 7 told me there is a compatability issue and said I should reinstall it. So I followed those instructions and voila.

Install Canon LiDE 30 2x and it will work

Someone posted that they had to do the installation twice in order for the scanner to work--so I tried that and now my scanner works too! Thanks!

Need to use your old XP scanner? Run XP under win7!

I solved this in a way that sounded scary but turned out to be trivial.

I am running my old XP installation under windows 7 in a Virtual machine. Am actually using VMplayer from VMware.

If you have an enhanced edition of windows 7 you may be able to use "Xp mode" for this purpose.

It took me about 2 hours to set up a VM, and now I can run my old machine under windows 7. The scanner works just as it did before. The old desktop appears seemlessly as a window, and scanner files can be put anywhere you like.

To transfer your old system to VMPlayer
- backup your old system using your favourite backup software (acronis true image has a free trial)
- download VMPlayer from VMware
- make a boot disk from the backup software
- install VMPlayer
- configure VMPlayer by adding a new hard drive "type physical" for the disk that contains the backup file
- configure VMPlayer by telling it which CD/DVD drive you are using to boot from
- boot your VMPlayer from the boot disk
- use the backup software to restore the system into the VMPlayer
- configure VMPlayer by adding a share for the location you want the scanner to put the files
- use your scanner

This only works if you upgraded windows 7 on the same hardware. There is another alternative if you still have your XP install disk and COA. Just create a fresh empty XP on your machine instead!

Took me a couple hours and it's free. Furthermore you are guaranteed no compatibility issues with your scanner. If it worked under XP before it will still work!

srp, that was basically the same as the suggestion above to use Virtualbox. My wife has this scanner, and it is quite old. I also have given up on single purpose devices quite some time ago. Considering how many quality, low cost all-in-ones there are on the market, especially with network capabilities...there's no reason to toil around trying to get such an old scanner going. I can't imagine not having a networked all-in-one at home, so that's the route I'd go.

I wanted to post this because I was amazed how easy it was to run my old computer on my new computer, and the integration is really seamless. I also found it a bit of fun, certainly more fun than trying 15 different drivers, and more successful too!

Well I am of a different mindset on one area though, I prefer to use a piece of equipment until it is worn out or stops being useful. I also prefer to spend good money on a printer that I use every day, and peanuts on a scanner that I use once every few months. I don't feel that I have such choices in an all in one.

Anyway I am thrilled that this old scanner will now last me another few years, and hope our posts are useful to someone

You didn't until recently. I just bought a Kodak 7250, after being a decades long HP fan tried and true. It's laughable how well this printer works, and how cheap the prints are. It was under $100, and it has both networking options that most homes need these days.

Just thought I would reinforce this recommend. It got my Canon LiDE 30 working on my Win7 64bit computer directly, straightforwardly, no muss, no fuss. Also apparently works on a couple of hundred orphaned scanners.
