I am running Windows 7 64 Professional, and was performing my normal quarterly tune-up. In the process, I did use Tune-Up Utilities 2010 (for Windows 7 64 bit), and did a registry clean-up. Found a few items which were deleted. Had to leave for awhile, so shut the system down.

When I rebooted, the system came up, asked for my name and password, and boom...went to a generic desktop, no icons, as if I was a new user on the PC. A pop up sayind that I could not log onto my account. Favorites were gone, files on my desktop gone, etc. It did stop me in my tracks!

I immediately shut down and repowered, and this time everything back to normal. whew!

The question is.....what happened????

I have run the registry cleaner before from Tune-Up Utilities, and trust it, but something happened this time. I am hoping that I could have done something (not sure what) to restore my normal desktop, other than rebooting.

Any thoughts?

Thx

Try a system restore. If it works, remember to create a system restore before you run it.
ALWAYS USE CAUTION WHEN USING REGISTRY CLEANERS!

Thx for the reply. To make a short story even shorter, my original post was a month ago, and since then have had no issues at all. It appears to have been a one time occurrence. Still don't understand why, just one of those computer mysteries.

Thx
