Who knew that Steve Jobs would find an ally in Microsoft?

Jobs, who is no fan of Adobe Flash, made that point perfectly clear in an open letter published yesterday that pointed to problems with Flash - notably problems with its reliability, security and performance.

Around the same time, Dean Hachamovitch, general manager for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, was putting up a blog post of his own that was saying some of the same things. The post was actually more about the HTML5 and how it’s the future of the Web. It also centered around H.264 as a standard, just as Steve Jobs had done.

Of course, Microsoft is pushing Silverlight as a competitor to Flash so no one would necessarily expect Microsoft to come to Adobe’s defense. Still the post isn’t too bad. At the end of it, Hachamovitch chimed in about Adobe.

I think Flash should be replaced with HTML5 - (personal view) this is the future of web video. For the rest sites, Silverlight. ;)

Flash is doomed.

I like Flash and what it has brought to the Internet, but it is EXTREMELY POOR in RESOURCE MANAGEMENT. To provide simple streaming video, use HTML 5 - it's not a difficult decision and it isn't a difficult switch. For user interfaces (etc.) it provides great fluidity, as long as you can partition 90% of your CPU for processing. I have MS dev and app design in my background... I've learned to love products produced by Apple - beginning with the iPhone. Mobile / portable devices is the future and such a process intensive plugin should have a short shelf life.

Sounds like Microsoft is making buddy-buddy with Adobe....conveniently while their main competitor Apple is at war with Adobe:D

Gonna be interesting (and a laugh) to see how the whole situation pans out

Silverlight has everything HTML5 has plus much much more. Silverlight is a complete platform. HTML5 vs Silverlight isn't the right comparison. It really should be Silverlight vs Google Chrome OS.

Ah ok, thanks for the explanation.

I was thinking it was just like 3 different ways to do the same thing. It sounds more like SL is an extension of HTML5.
